We've got some Fuldas on our Volvo 960 turbo

They are great in the way that they break traction from the rear end so easily under a light amount of throttle I can pretend to be a drift king. In a Volvo estate.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose what it all comes down to is what tyres are best for the Polo? You would think Continental being German, but I haven't read many comments labelling them. Anymore comments please let me know :).

The best 175x65s i ever had on a Polo were Goodyear GT3's. Not exactly semi-slick,but sporty for the tyre size and great for the impending autumn,winter,spring. I had two different sets on the back,one being Avon,and it always oversteered in the wet,with neutrality in the dry - the Goodyears on the front always out performed the back axle. Being american,they're not expensive at the current exchange. Ideal.

I'm after some rear tyres soon. Won't go for Pirelli again as they are rather expensive. I have a nice pair on the front and they've bedded in well. I might get some Yokohamas' for the rear. Need some advice, cheers.

Some pieces of tyre advice

- Try and stick with same brand on all 4 corners - a must on 4WD

- should have, at minimum, same tyres on each axle, ie FL & FR same tyre

- if different brands F & R then go with similar wear, speed and tread patterns, ie don't mix directional and asymetrical, etc

- I try to avoid different sizes on F and R on FWD

- Tyres that have good grip tend to not have such longevity and vice-versa

- I find that directionals are better in the wet but don't last very long in the summer due to lower wear rating

- Not all Top Brand, ie Pirelli and Mich are as good as you'd think

- Tyres that work wonder on a 3.0L BMW might be crap on a 1.0 FWD Polo and vice-versa

- Tyres performance changes dramatically with wear, so tyre tests are usually pish as they rate tyres based on thme being new with 8mm tread, eg Hankook K406s get slated in tyre tests, but I ran them on my Audi 80 TDi for 3 years (2 sets) cos after the 1st 1000-1500 miles they faltten out, get grippier and start to perform (on that car with that size of tyre)

- Rotate you tyres ever 2000-3000 miles and get the most out of them

My choice of tyres to date;

Eagle F1s - fantastic grip in wet and dry, wear quite quickly, utter pish for the 1st 100-300 miles until scrubbed in

Pirelli Rosso - all round good tyre

Bridgstone RE050A - change these at about 3mm as they get shite real quick at this level

Pirelli P6000 - wear like hell but pretty good IMO

Faklen 512s - not the best wear but overall decent

Hankook K406 - not a performance tyre but has good charactersitics for daily driving / crusing

Mich Pilot Sports 1 - just plain crap, wear crap, grip crap, slide in the wet, alomst dangerous. Came std on my MK4 R32 and were ditched after 4000 miles.

Some good tips there - especially about rotating tyres, key to getting good lifespan out of Yoko A539s! Also stops you ending up with cheesey tyres on the rear of a FWD car that are older than your grandma.

Interesting comments about Pirelli P6000s. My dad likes them on his Jensen FF, but they were shocking on my Saab Aero and got changed whilst they still had a fair bit of tread on them. Other Saab guys hate them on Saab 9000s too. I'm now running Bridgestone Potenza RE050a, and they're so much better - especially in the wet. Not worn down to 3mm yet though!

Think it's important to only really compare comments on tyres with people that have used them in the same/similar sizes to you, on similar cars, driven in a similar manner.
