I'm at work now and my mam just phoned to say there was a letter there for me from the police, I was racking my head trying to think what it could be about but I couldnt think of anything so I got her to open it. It was a letter to say I had been caught speeding (coincidentally by the same camera that got you Kam ). Anyways, since I haven't passed my test or drove my car anywhere near birtley (where it said I was caught speeding), I'm pretty sure it wasnt me that it caught. The only other person it could have been is if my mam was using my car, shes insured on it and everything so I dont have anything illegal to worry about.

How do I tell them it wasn't me driving lol? I've tried phoning up but there's no answer, I dont want to lose my licence before I've even passed my test

Ask for proof? If there's no proof they can't say it was you

I'm not denying the car was speeding, I'm guessing they'll have a photo of it. What I'm saying is it wasn't me driving and I dont see why I should get the points/ban/whatever when it wasnt me.

No, the law is actually against you saying who was driving. Not against the actual photgraph iirc. By law you HAVE to state who was driving at the time as its your responsability. But obviously you have the right to contend this.

But there is a loophole where if you don't know who was driving and you can solidly proove various mebers that could have been driving at that current time and they can't prove who it actually was they can't do FA.

E.g. I went to pick a mate up from london airport (long trip), had 2 others with me all three were insured to drive and did drive in that trip, we didn't know which one of us was driving at the current time, we aksed for a pic and all they had was a pick of the back of my car with 3 people in it, no chance of defining who was driving. I/we got away with it!! Phew.. 88 in a 30 zone.. lucky!

But as Skatty says.. this could have been changed now, as this was like 3 yrs ago!

But as your saying, if its only got you or your mum insured and you can't drive it only realy leaves one option anyway.

haha, 38 erm well i was duin 42 in a 30. . . but to be honest its a silly speed limit, ok if there was a school near by or owt but there isnt

38 in a 30 should be, 3 points and a £60 fine!

My dad got that for doing 43 in a 30.

I think you can take a thing now where you get 0 points, a bigger fine (like 150) and take a driving course. If your a first time offender anyway.. Bullplop I know, but its todays society, beat someone up and get a caution, go 8mph over the speedlimit and get bummed by the justice system.

Likely hood is that your mum will get a letter saying she can do that course I'm doing.

£67 but no points or fine though. Points are the ones you've got to avoid really!

You will get a letter saying you were caught and need to admit who the driver was > send it back to them

AFter that you get one saying you have the option of doing the course or paying the fine > say you'll do the course and send it back

Then they will send you one asking which one you want to do it at and tell you how to book it > book it, pay for it

Then they will send you a confirmation letter.

Cheaper than i thought! Whats the course consist of Heartagram? And how longs it last for? Any problems with driving in between now and taking the course and how about effecting insurance???

If you ask me, if you speed in a 30 then you need to be culled and/or sat on. My mum constantly speed in 30's, and she occasionally finds herself braking suddenly for something. All I can say when I'm in her car is for god's sake just slow down a teeny bit and you won't have to do that. AKA 'iz times 4 brainz now?'

My bro collects speed tickets. Got 2 in the space of 4 days, both for going 39mph.

30 and 40 zones are probably the most important, speed limit wise. I stick just under these speed limits ALL the time, to the annoyance of the drivers behind me. Sure I'll hit a ton anywhere else but 30 and 40 limits are there for a reason.

Absolutely, I full agree with this! 3 points and a £60 fine for doing 42/43 etc in a 30 limit?? U should all consider yourselves lucky, I had a friend that was killed by a car, driver was doing about 40 in a 30 zone!! So £60 and 3 points?.. I think that's getting off too lightly! I know it is bad, It was years ago and not done anything since. I'm 23, no points, no crashes not even a scratch and I rack up the miles doing about 20k a year.

I admit, I do speed, but only saftley (when I say saftley I mean I dont en-danger anyones life apart from my own, which I'm happy with) on big open roads, not in built up area's, I'm not one of the twats driving up's people arses or overtaking on speed bumpsor in built up traffic or driving stupidly fast past schools at 3.15 and i'm no way connected to the 'boy racer' image. I'm not saying speeding is big and clever and that it should be done, I'm not. 90% of people on the road shouldn't speed simply becuase they don't know what there car is going to do next. I meticulously maintain my car and know exactly what my car will do and don't push it past its limits. I am not saying the other 10% should speed either.

We were cought doing 88 in a 30 on a duel carridge way on the way back from a airport at 2.30 in the AM. Big main road, no cars and we thought it was a national speed limit as it was on the whole journey there, turned out we were heading in the wrong direction on the same road. Its called a speed trap. 70 to 40 to 30 and back up.. Its called money making, has nothing to do with saftey on that road. Not on a duel carridge way with no one on it and no buildings in site.

It just shows how easy it is to make mistakes, but with a clean record for my full 5 years driving show's i've learnt from it and won't repeat it again.

I am not saying you should speed and agree that you shouldn't, i just do. It's my choice and will suffer the consiquences (sp) is something happens. I don't mean to offend anyone especiialy if you/your mates/family have been involved in speeding accidents. I've been there with mates and its not nice. Each and everytime the driver/machine was not compitent and should not have been doing it. Saying that I would happily get in a car with lots of people who drive fast, because I know they can 'saftley'

likewise!its good fun too when you get to an open bit of road and i can let the g40 stretch its legs a bit! one further point to add, if you dont speed in 30,40 and 50 zones you are far less likely to get done for speeding, so why risk it?

Hence te main problem with speeders today. Especially with all the gizmo's like abs, pas esc, etc etc. People think they can drive but actually can't as it the traction control or abs doing all the saftey work, so when they push it that little bit too far and crash they don't understand why!

Exactly. I'd rather let the steering wheel or amount of bodyroll tell me if I'm about to get into some trouble rather than a computer SELF CORRECTING the steering in the case of the new BMWs, and active suspension in many cars today.

I've just got stopped by an unmarked traffic cop for doing 57 in a 30. got off lightly with a fine and 3 points. all of us speed from time to time whatever we may say its just a case of wether you get caught or not. i was unlucky and got busted. ill pay the fine and take the points thats my fault and when he stopped me and asked i was the first to admit i was speeding well in excess of the limit. to be fair though the 30mph road is a 3 lane road heading into the city and is a fast road anyway should be 40 at least i never tear down residential roads but this should have the limit reviewed. until then though its 30 and those who get caught pay the price.

i must say though. the time it takes to get from 30 to say 57 in a g40 is nothing and you can easily get over enthusiastic with the accelorator. i said to the cop actually, this will do me some good calm me down. and before you all start slating, 'should be banged up' rubbish. we all speed i dont care what any of you say, at any speed its still an offence. saying i never speed in 30 and 40 limits put pull a ton elsewhere, well thats no better really the damage to your licence is far worse at that speed anyway. for a reason. and its not just young boys who speed. I'm 23 nearly 24 and have been driving nearly 6 years, and do considerable miles a year and this is my first and probably not my last set of points.

SPEEDING ITS NOT WORTH IT before i got in to v- dubs i had a few boyracer cars which i got court speeding in a 2.0i sierra 98 on a jule carriage way 3 points £60 fine and a nova .12i 51 in a 40 as points etc then i got a nice mk2 golf when it came to renewal of insurance it was going to be to much so now got a 1l polo mk2 i stick to speed limits now its not worth your liecince and there is so many differnet under cover cops around now
