Tyre sizes

Featured Replies

Got some 15' rims which I am saving for next year but I need to tyre my winter shitters up

they are standard gt steels

What tyre sizes does anybody reccomend

as standard (IIRC)They are running 165/65/13

g40 bbs are the same size but run 175/60/13

would I be better fitting these tyres or would my speedo be all over the place

:retard:

Using the 175/60 tyres, your speedo will remain pretty accurate (they're 5mph out anyway at town-driving speeds).

Karl.

^^ they're almost spot on - nowhere near 5mph out at town speeds. In fact, they only differ from standard by about +1mph at 50mph..

165x65x13 (standard GT) has a profile of 107.2mm.

175x65x13 - 113.7mm

175x60x13 - 105.0

185x60x13 - 111.0

165x55x13 - 90.7

175x50x13 - 87.5

As you can see,the nearest to the standard 165x65 is a 175x60. Even a 185x60 is closer than a 175x65 with a difference of about 2mph at 50mph,which is a bit of a surprise.

Are GT speedos the same as all the other (non-G40) speedos? If so then standard CL tyres are 145/80 which is 116mm, so even as standard a GT will over-read (assuming a CL doesn't under-read)

The speedos are the same but the box is different which is why it reads correctly on a GT and on a CL (providing they have standard boxes).

As I understand it.

Interesting, as my speedo read 5 mph over when compared to GPS speed on 165/65s.

On 175/50s its 10mph out by the GPS.

Oh so VW didn't bother altering the speedo drive then.

So on 145/80 for example, your speedo should be reading correctly?

GPS have been proved not accurate

if you read up it says depending on where you are and blah blah blah

main citys it tends to lag for all the other frequencies in the travel

mines lagged on a brand new car which has standard wheels... i knew the car was right

and i tested it in 2 others..
