Just wonderin if anyone knows any differences of the AVY and ARC engine codes? rang VW and they said the head is different part no. Basicly jus brought a 2000 polo gti to replace my mk2 golf. needs new engine and can get hold of AVY code engine cheap without cams and carriers. Want to put my cams, etc and new timin belt and chuck it in!! any thoughts appreciated!! thank, cant wait jump out me rattly golf and into the uxury of th polo!! cheers.

they are different, iirc one of them has a special port on the right hand side of the number 4 exhaust port for the egr valve (which can be blanked off with a plate which i cant find the part number for at the moment) and the other one has no egr valve
