Would it be easier for a garage to do the work for me?

It take it, it needs the gearbox taken out? I think my clutch bearing is going/almost gone, as it makes a knocking noise with the clutch up, then when I'm driving and dip the clutch it makes a whirring noise.

Any help.

Yea sounds like the clutch release bearing, yep the box will have to come out to do it.

dont think you can just buy the release bearing on its own. i couldnt when i bought a cluth for my mates golf.

Normally come in complete clutch kits.

But seeings as you have to remove the box anyway you might aswell replace the clutch.

You can buy them seperate,but why would you? If the gearbox is off,you change the clutch as a matter of course. They're like forty quid more and it'll cost little more of a big labour bill to do the extra work - saving you forking out a similar expense later.

And ask for the old parts afterwards.
