If you can get 15x6 ET30-38 or so then you should be able to go as low as you want with a sensible tyre choice. 15x7s of roughly ET30 shouldn't be a problem with a 30-40mm drop either.

Remember 30-40mm drop on a G40 is only a 10-20mm drop when compared to a normal Polo.

Why is this in the FAQ section?

Tav that implies the G40 is 20mm higher than a standard model.. I think you mean that the other way round?

No it implies that a suspension kit marketed as a 40mm kit for a Mk3 Polo won't have the same effect on a G40 as the G40 is already lower.

...or in other words a -60mm kit on a G40 will make it the same height as any other Mk3 Polo on a -60mm kit...so it's acctually only like -40mm in G40 terms...

If you want to lower a G40 60mm...you'd have to go get a regular 80mm kit or something.

thanks for info guys bought a set of rms 6.5 by 15 et33

going to but 175/50/15 handkooks on them. do you think thats a good tyre choice size

No

175/50 and Hankooks - not my choice

If you are going for the Hankooks coz they are cheap, then look at Kumho Ecstas in 195/45

They are a good tyre for the money

not going for trhem for cheapness just the looks

and will clear easier i think and what I've been reccomended off people off here

I had 195/45/15's on a 7" wide 15" wheel with a bit of arch work. I had kuhmo ecsta's on them for a while. Two problems, they are a completly shit tyre that the G overwhelmes quite easily. If you want sketchy handling and wheelspin these are for you. Two they are very square shouldered and used to rub like mad. I swapped them out for toyo t1s's and the grip was a million times better and they hardly rubbed as the rounded shoulder of the tyre helped bring the tyre in.

Car was lowered around 40mm too.

would not buy kuhmos no matter what i know there shit had the on my gti golf and lasted 3-4000 miles

what sort of arch work needs to be done and is it the front and rear that needs done cause I've just had all the car sprayed

and new wings on.

It wouldnt rub iff you were to use 165/50/15 Bridgestone potenzas mate but that gives it a slight streach on the tyre .

I found the handling beter than the existing 195/45/15's too ..

Fronts should be fine. I got rid of the lip on the rears. Had a bit of a shonky job done, lesson learned though and all that.

Up to you but I'd never put 15's on again. I thought they looked ace but it handles so much better with 13's or 14's on. Lot of hassle to get them all fitting right too. Every car will be different I'm sure but I had to run 3 and 5mm spacers for them to clear the strut cups too.

Dunno what Kumhos you've been using - but I can assure you the new Ecstas are a good tyre... That's from personal experience, and I do drive my cars hard!

i have 60-40 drop, and 7x15 with 195/50/15 it work :)

They might have changed them but I bought 4 Kumho Ecsta 172's brand new and I couldnt wait to get them off, wheelspin all over the place, they just couldnt cope with the G at all. I put two Toyo's on the back and immediatly noticed the difference. Kumhos were shite.

SPT KU31s are where it's at 8-)
