GT Conversion - Wiring help

Featured Replies

Posted here aswel as we need to kno asap.

I've got a GT coupe sat next to a CL squareback. There are subtle differences in the wiring between the cars. The GT has a 3 wire connector into the standard loom next to the coil, instead of the 2 wire on the CL, and a 3 wire connector next to the ECU instead of the 5 wire. So it seems that I have to swap both engine bay looms from the GT, but how do you get them out of the fuse box?

how do you take the looms from the fuse box, as theres no obvious way to disconnect?

i 'think' the fuse box gets swapped over with it, not sure tho i was draining the petrol tank while my mate was doing that bit on my conversion, but you do have to swap the engine looms over. also swap radiator fans (or just the radiator as its easier), the water bottle expasion tank thing and the inline fuel pump from next to the petrol tank (although they look the same the gt one pumps more fuel). you might also want to take the steering damper off the gt and swap the rear axals over as they are differant, but they don't really make much differance in handling if any so i didn't bother.

hope that helps in some way shape or form. good luck witrh it all.

just spoke to ross, yeah you need to unplug the fusebox to disconect the 2 looms on the right, they are clip connected behind the box, 3 screws secure the fusebox...

and a gt rear axle alters the handling dramatically! please people dont post responses if you dont know what your saying lol

Well I'm waiting for yeha to ring me as my cars with him in harrogate.

but weve already done the damper and fuel pump, got the gt rad and fan ready to put in after weve sorted the loom out. dont think were guna do rear axel.

it was just the loom problem holding us up. a friend of mine just told me u have to swap the fuse box aswel...so you might be right.

didnt no the water expansion needed to be swapped though?

And yeh hopefully it will help when i tell him 8-)

Cheers, Scott

Worth doing?

and yeh ross just rang me

definatley worth doing, but shame the axle is already sold lol

;)

the loom thing shouldnt be an issue, fact is the 2 looms connect behind the fuse box, so you need to pop it out...

onyl difference in expansion tank is the one on yours doesnt have a swithc on it, to tell you when your water is running out...

just going off what philj told me, so don't shoot the mesanger

WHAT WOULD PHIL KNOW

well from my own experience, my gt still needs the gt axle putting on, and it handles like a pussy on back end, i noticed it mostly when i got my first gt, it just tightens the back end up

the backend were the problem with mine, it was the front end understeering all the time, never driven a hot hatch that you have to slow down so much for the bends in, kinda scary at times

sorry but WTF. this is a thread about electrical issues in the wrong forum for starters!

And, just for the record, there is some absolute toss about handling in here.

the backend werent the problem with mine, it was the front end understeering all the time, never driven a hot hatch that you have to slow down so much for the bends in, kinda scary at times

if you knew anything, you would realise that the front end cant understeer on its own. handling is based on the complete setup of the suspension on the vehicles axels. the front and rear have to work with each other. so saying "there was nowt wrong with the rear it was the front" is rubbish, you could have changed either to change the handling characteristics. bizarre as it sounds, but the rear end actually partly steers the car for you so if somethings a miss at the back, then its unfair to pass the blame to the front for understeering! if you have problems with understeer you either need to adapt the way you are driving or change the suspension setup, stiffen the rear or soften the front, maybe add some toe on the back and dial in some camber on the front

its already in the right part of the forum, but as this part has more viewings i thought I'd put it up here aswel as i needed to find out asap!

Sorry if its such a big problem.

i do appologise for not having a PHD in car design and handling characteristics. maybe from now on you should ban all members from making comments on the forum unless they are either part of the moderating team or have studied car shit at university.

People who think they know what they are talking about, are more dangerous than people who know nothing...

i did know what i was on about, i answerd his question about the fuse box (although dk gave more details about it) and about swapping the looms. at the end of the day i probably know a lot more about some other stuff than you do, but if you said some thing about one of the things i do know a lot about and that was incorrect i wouldn't make some big thing out. being a cock don't get you any where i life.

I wish i had quoted you before you edited your post, so i could have corrected you again, on spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

oh no please don't take the piss out of my spelling

bah silly post, fact is you posted incorrect information, wether you can spell and know lots of other stuff, it doesnt change the fact you posted incorrect information.

I am now going to lock this post

the incorrect information i posted had been passed on to me from a fellow member and i had no reason to doubt it, the thing i posted about the under steer was my opinion. funny how certian people on here use the 'its my opinion and i'm entitaled to post it on a puplic forum' speach to slag of peoples cars and shit, but when some one else puts up there opinion its differant matter.

this is suposed to be a site for car enthusiasts, but it seems some people just use it to boost there self esteem

TBH at the end of the day everybody should just stop squabbling

Now, i don't know the answer myself, but I'm sure Mouse posted the information he thought was correct, as he has done a GT conversion himself. He wouldn't have posted incorrect information to fuck him up, he isn't that sort of person.

In the case that the information isn't right somebody should have just given him a heads up and said, no mate, its actually this, but never mind, not got all shirty.

Not saying Mouse didn't get shirty himself in the end but it seems to have been the way he has been corrected which has cause him to retaliate in this way, and i agree some people should stop using this site for an ego boost. And anyone who knows me and Mouse (Guy) will know we would happily tell them in person as well.

Oh btw I'm no keyboard warrior, its just threads like this piss me off.

This is a problem actually. If you start posting here then everyone will thinks its okay and the forum will be a complete mess with people posting as and where they feel. There is a reason there are sections. There are people who only really post in the technical sections and have great technical knowledge and you would be missing out on some of the best advice out there by posting here.

Please post ONCE in the CORRECT section.
