Erm, yea. Just got some opel ATS classics from eBay. Not picked 'em up yet, but spearson turns up in his Corsa C today and decides to see if his wheels fit on my car.

They dont, being too tight on the hub, so dont tighten them up says I. He does anyway.

Predictably, I now have a corsa wheel wedged very firmly on my drivers side hub! Any ideas on how the hell to get the bloody thing off? We are prepared to sacrifice the wheel to get it off!

Any help (or insults for Spearson) greatly appreciated. Just off to the garage to ask there opinion.

Daft thing is, I cant get the wheelnuts in now 'cos the wheel has rotated slightly, and I cant shift it back, so I cant even drive it to the garage without worrying about the wheel falling off!

there is like .5mm difference

56.6 being vahuxall and 57.1 being vw.

jack the car up and smash it with a hammer from behind. rubber hammer would be better

and if that don't work....

loosen the nuts and then drive it very very slowly along with your mate watching the wheel so he can shout when it budges

or without killing yourself use the rubber mallet, if there isnt enough space, then get a long piece of timber and hit that, just means you dont have to risk getting wedged under a car

or file down the hub slightly, if there is 0.5mm difference

heat the wheel up with a heat gun, then beat it with mallet. if it dont come off you've either not had enough wheatabix or your just plain feable!

As above - rubber mallet is your best bet, maybe a bit of wd40 in there to try and loosen things up a bit?

The added bonus is that once you've got the wheel off, you can then turn to spearson and use the rubber mallet on him too.

Naa, I just got him to do the work (i.e. clouting the bugger with a rubber mallet borrowed from the local garage) while i span the wheel 90 degrees every few hits. Came off no bother, cheers for your help all (except possibly Pabs, I'm quite attached to my brake disk, and I'd rather not mutilate Spearson, he's too useful a mechanic! )

Now to pick up the classics :)

Are they the 6" classics in south Gloucester on ebay? Saw them and wanted them as they're near but then I realised I already had an identical set on my car now How much you get them for?

More than I wanted/ intended to pay, buy seeing as I need 2 tyres for the skinny standard Mk3 steels on my car atm, and that would be £50 odd anyway, the 5 ATSes with OK tyres for £80- odd seems OK!

I was just kinda hoping they'll fit... we'll find out soon if the seller ever bothers to reply *glares*

i've got ATS's off a Manta on my Polo......fit with no prob's (apart from brakes)

the centre bore on RWD Vauxhalls is the same as VW......for some reason

FWD have the smaller centre bore

....

the brake prob. is clearance, i have front brakes off a mk2 Golf GTI and i have to run 3mm spacers on the front to clear the calipers

tie the wheel thru a spoke to the tow area of another car, and drive the other car away fast, the wheel will ping right off!!

Yeah for the tyres alone £80 isn't too bad, and I assume you'll pick up so will save a lot on postage/delivery, and was for a set of 5 iirc? But didn't they have absolutely enormous tyres like 185/70 on? I've got 185/60 which is just a mm or two smaller than stock (diameter) and people on here would probably call them enormous.

On the fitment issue I have the 6x13 wheel and it fits fine (standard CL brakes). Want to get some 7s for the back though
