Featured Replies

Would Golf mk1 or mk2 suspension fit on to a 1984 polo?

If so what would need changing?

no

only thing i can say is yes mk1 golf susp can be made to fit a mk2 polo, someone i used to know has done it for an auto test car they did, i just dont actually know what was involved

Mk1 Golf coilies fit the rear though don't they

yes mk1 golf coilovrs fit on the back of a mk3.

it was standard mk1 golf fronts this mk2 polo had on tho :-p

and i mean complete struts and hubs aswell not just springs

Given that the MK1 Golf was 100kgs heavier than the MK2 Polo, the spring rate is gonna be wrong. But if chopped MK1 Golf springs will fit in the Polo seats, then sweet.

The rear dampers are a pretty universal fitment, with a thread-out at the top and horizontal bush below - so only reach and rate to worry about there.

VW are most likely to change things like this to ensure it cant be done - Rover 200 or Nissan Sunny springs, purely as an example, are more likely to fit by fluke.

what about from polo to polo say mk3 GT or G40 on a MK2

yep will go

was a thread on that earlier this week

not to sure lol

i no m8 mate has fitted mk2 golf coilovers on a mk4 polo

you certainly could make mk1 golf front struts fit a mk2/3 polo (I guess mk2 golf would be about the same amount of work too) but it certainly isn't going to be a bolt-on conversion. The steering arm is in completely the wrong place for one thing. Plus I'd be suprised if the polo bottom ball joint just fits into the bottom of a golf hub.

then there's also the matter of the thickness of the piston rod in golf shock being thicker so it wont fit right into a polo top mount.

And then loads of other things I haven't even thought of yet.

If you are thinking of this because you see it as a way of getting cheaper coilovers then it'd be far simpler to buy a coilover conversion kit from Rally Design, get your welder out and convert some polo struts to coilovers.

or just sell the polo and buy a proper car !

a mk1

lol

some people prefer a challenge :D

Especially when the end result embarrases a lot of people in their "proper cars".

Mk4 Polos and Mk2 Golfs have a fair bit in common though...
