POLO 98 ignition problem

Featured Replies

i just installed a new radio to my 1998 polo and my old radio worked fine with the key in the ignition and when i take the key out, the radio stops....

After installing the new radio .... with the correct wiring ( I've tried every combination with the red and yelow wires) ... my new radio dont seem to want to come on ... i can eject the cd though......

now i also found that my alarm which was on the ignition as well has stopped working too ... ( the alarm has a feature that if the car is not started within 25 seconds, the alarm re arms itself ) so whenever i dis arm the alarm and drive off .. 25 seconds into the drive the alarm re arms itself , which means I'm driving with the alarm on !!! .. so basicaly I'm guessing that my cars ignition switch ( or the key barrel) is faulty ...

the radio will work if i connect it to the RED continious 12v supply ... radio will work to its full potential but just wont turn off when the key is pulled out

i dont mind that .. its just that as the alarm is also having problems .. i think its something to do with the ignition system in the car ???

any help is much appreciated or if anyone has a cure for this it will help !!

you may have blown a fuse

have a look in the fusebox under the drivers steering wheel

CHEERS!!

Hi, i just had my sony cdrx fitted and it does the same thing, but the blaupunkt did the same, from what i understand when you switch the ignition off after having the car started it goes into aux, but if you put the key in it dosnt have a aux mode as such. basically if you wanna listen to the radio before starting your car turn the key so that it goes so the part where all the dash lights come on and the air fan then switch it off. hope this helps. (normally switch live is done on the aux but on these it is when you pull the key out it breaks the circuit.)

cheers for that mate ... i been told its the ignition switch but i tried to remove it today n failed ... i cn see it but its a bugger to get off ... i heard i have to take out the steering column .. so to be honest I'm gonna leave it !!

i have looked at all the fuses and they are all fine

cheers !!

so if anyone has any ideas on how to get the bugger out ...let me know !!... worse comes to worst ill pay someone to get it done !!
