Hi ho all...

I really want to 'de-tractor' my Mk4 and have a few questions. I need the car to be usable everyday (i.e. ride can't be too firm), need to carry full loads and need to get over speed humps. Scrubbing shouldn't be a problem as I'm only running standard 185/44 14s.

1) Been looking at Philj's kits (springs & dampers) as they come highly recommended from most people on the forum. How hard are they? I know it depends on how low I go, I'm only after a rough idea.

2) I can't decide how low to go. Candidates are 40/40 60/40 or 60/60. I gather 60/40 could be a good choice if i need to carry full loads. Does this make the car look nose heavy or does it give a nice stance?

3) What about tracking etc?

Everyone goes on about ' oooh hard ride' and ' youll feel every bump in the road'. only pussies complain about that because mines down 60/50 and its still comfortable. infact it feels safer because it doesnt boat around corners.

60/50 would be nice. i like the hard ride but i would like it to be stiffer!

Tyres are your primary form of suspension

1) I don't find it too hard, and that's 90/60 on a mk2...rattles a bit but that's more down to the car than the suspension.

2) 60/40 would be practical for carrying loads/people but still look good, and you can always lower the back if you want to.

3) You'll need to get your tracking done asap after lowering.

^^ was told that you have to drive around for a couple hundred miles before getting tracking done while the suspension is settling. that true?

Yep thats true, Drive it around for a week let the suspension settle, :). Also, They're firm over big bumps, but cornering they still seem to roll quite a bit. Not sure why, maybe I'm just going too fast. lol
