I'm thinking of getting this sorted in case i decide to keep the car, MOT is due end of march 08 so this'll need sorting before then. Took it to a body repair place today (a mate of a mate kinda thing) And he quoted either £50 to have it fillered on some mesh and then that black undercoat stuff (is it called rubberguard?) put on both door sills so it doesn't look uneven or it was either £75 and he'll paint it original colour and do the bit by the window too (that was a spot that had to be welded for previous mot apparently) or £65 just to do the sill and repaint original colour.

What do you guys think? Worth the money or is it something I can do myself on a sunday afternoon?

I would go for the dearer 1 then as its got more chance to go through MOT

if you are gonna do it you might as well do it properly. in an ideal world you would want to take out the window to make a decent repair of it (otherwise it will just come back in a year or so) I dont understand why it had prev work there to pass mot though? shouldnt fail unless it was sharp?

As for the sill either option will work but if you are planning on selling the car i would spend the extra on getting it done body colour cos if I were to view the car and saw its sills were painted in anti stone chip paint i would be prodding around with a screwdriver and would probably find more holes!(i repaied a sill on my 1 litre mk3 and ended up doing both sides cos i kept finding more holes!its amazing how much damage underseal can hide!)

Bang along the underside of the car iff it sounds propper hollow they will fail it .. Iff you canhere metel they wont ..

To be honest the prices u are quating you might aswell get it done its naff all really ..

Rotten sills are a fail, being as they're structural!

I'd get it all done properly and have the window out. That way you won't have to patch it again a year down the line.

Mate.. its 25 quid difference from the temperary bodge repair or a proper job that should last longer than the car does.. Its not rocket science.. But from what it looks like, its just surface rust so should be ok for the mot.. but... Get it treated now or it'll cost double that 1 yr down the line, if your gonna sell the car you'll loose more than 100 quid on the resale value with that rust on.
