Headgasket/rebuild is now finished..

Featured Replies

Right.. Rebuilt my head, changed all the gaskets/seals, lapped the valves, changed timing belt too..

All back together and the car wont start!! Anyone know what could be wrong?

When I say car wont start, I mean the engine rotates but it wont start. The rotation is smooth, no knocks or strange noises. Just wont start also the rev counter is going crazy as it tries to start.. I.e jumps from 0 to 5k and back.

I'm thinking maybe the hall sender as it was looses before I did the rebuild and maybe me taking the dizzy off has killed it?

Whats everyones views?

Is there a spark? Put the coil lead onto the metal of the engine and watch for the spark. Have you got the plug leads in the right firing order?

Yeah.. Plugs are in the right order.. I numbered them up before taking them off!!

It does try to start, but doesnt!!

You didnt happen to give the bay a clean while stuff was out of the way did you? When I changed my engine I cleaned the engine bay and must have killed the coil with water. But yeah could also be your hall sender if you said it was dodgy.

Nope.. Didn't clean the bay, How would you kill the coil tho?.. Thinking hall sender as when I try to start it it does try and burbles and the revs go crazy and irratic.

as i told you its the hall sender, mine did exactly teh same thing

the rev counter going crazy suggests a fucked coil as it takes it feed from that.

when i was tryin to start my g40 after its rebuild mine was doing exactly the same thing, changed the dizzy and was sorted

Yeah.. coil was changed not long ago.. I'm thinking hallsender is fucked.. Will keep everone posted when I find a cheapo replacement.

check the simple things first.

is there fuel on the spark plugs??

are the fuel pipes on the right way round (done this a few times.....)

does the fuel pump prime? if so,and your getting a spark, the hall sender is okay.

not always true, pump primed and i got a spark when my hall sender was dead.

as it turns... hall sender either works or it doesnt..

it either knows engines turning - and makes it spark / give fuel

or it doesnt??

i know they can go dicky whilst spinning fast if they are on the way out

It was the hall sender.. I changed it for a spi one.

Engine turned, fuel was getting pumped.. even a spark!! But not working till I changed the dizzy!!

Thanks for the advice everyone!
