LOWERING TROUBLE WITH 6N 1.4 16V!!

Featured Replies

Hi Club Polo friends,

i'm need of some help and advice on me Polo 6n 1.4 16v.

i got coilover lowering kit, which i think drops 120mm, but when car is on the deck

the anti roll bar hits the underneath of the car just at the lower part of the inner wheel arch.

i have attached photo on the topic so PLEASE have alook to see what i mean.

love it lookin that low, but when i first drove it it knocked like mad and didn't

handle so well at front end as what i thought it would, must be due to ARB not having enough movement.

I jacked up car today(when i got it underneath!!) and with the wheel of the deck there ain't to much clearance anyway,.

SOooo don't really know what to do, in the photos i have actually raised the car about inch at the front,

but still knocks over bumps etc!

IF ANY ONE CAN HELP PLEASE MAIL ME!!!

CHEERS

DAN

I have jacked it up bout inch at front, but stillllll really close! as u can see from photo of arb, its close with it jacked of the ground!

my only advise then, is that its too low... :p

d/w the 16v boys will know how to sort this. Tej, P20DUB, what have they done to get so low?

On my 8v the driftshaft hits the lowerpart of the bulkhead/chassis part thingymabob. :)

mines driveshaft though not arb's as I don't have em lol

ahhh dont worry

i get that as well as the driveshaft on the passenger side

my ARBs made a nice snug groove for itself to sit in (which i helped along by grinding it flat) and so it doesnt knock anymore

not alot you can do to get around it really...shit design by VW having it so close, could have easily made the bend a bit different to avoid it & i think they solved that on the 6N2 as i dont hear of many mk5 owners gettin this problem (so mk5 GTI ARB may solve it)

just had a look on etka,

mk4 and mk5 use the same ARB groups..

mk4: "AFH, ANM, AFK" / mk5 "PR-0AD" = its 20mm, all same part number

mk4: "GTI:AJV" / mk5 "PR-0AH" = its 22mm, all same part number

mk4 / mk5 'PR-0AH' = 18mm on everything else... all same part number

anyway, mk4 gti, whats one of those?? lol thats what it says

yer I'm getting a little knocking from passenger side so its nothing to worry about right?

an I'm only 60mm down, my mates dads just got ramps thow so I'm gona take a look at mine.

have you got any pic of 120mm down?

ETKA may have only the new part numbers, as they will probably have replaced the existing mk4 part with the newer mk5 one if there was an upgrade... unless someones got an old 6N ARB which still has the part number visible?...

the mk4 GTI was only available in LHD (european 1.6 16v 120bhp)

odd that, i haven't known mine to knock yet, mine is set all the way down on the same kit aswell! :?

~Right so if you bought the mk5 18mm one, its the smallest, so potentially gives the suspension 4mm more travel before hitting it, but would it not be as good? more flexing? I'm lost. lol

means replacing the mounts too. no point fitting a smaller one as it'l probably bend alot more... youd need an expert on this, which i aint!

ah that explains the gti then...

if it helps anyone::: etka shows all the original part numbers, then tells you if its been superseeded, on what date and by what part number

hi plp, just read through the threads which have been left, might have to look in to diffrent rollbar, 16vTej's idea sounds good, but i must say it has got bit less lately, but still bit sketchy at the front, could be my drivin!!

at least I'm not the only one that has this problem!! cheers chaps(and chapettes if any!!)

the photo is it nearly adjusted to low as it will go, jack it up the other day at the front end, but still knocks so may go bak down again soon!!
