Hello chaps I've not posted many times but iv been lookin and admirin alot of your cars for a while iv got a mk1 golf gti which is currently off the road.

anyways I'm lookin at gettin a mk2 polo to use to n from uni now i dnt want to leave it standard but I'm only lookin at wheels and lowering it perhaps a funky luggage rack for fun

now what are the biggest wheels I'm likely to get on without any major arch work perhaps some g60 steelies but not sure about the 15's might look a little odd or maybe some wide 14's

anyways i look forward to your comments and advice as i know very little about polos

15s will go on with 165/50 tyres but would look a bit daft unless lowered.14s seem to be the popular choice, but you will be limited to either 165/55 or 175/50 if you want low profile and no scrubbage

6-14 ET 38 with 195/45-14 will not scrub on mine without arch work

I'm liking G40NUT's suggestion! maybe go with a slightly norrower tyre for the stretched look! but not sure about the 45 profile perhaps 50's if they are available!!

What budget suspension is out there? Am I right that mk3 suspension is pretty much the same as the mk2? and is polybushing worth is on such a smal engined car i imagine il only get a little 1 litre!?

Yeah.. Mk1/2/3 Polos all share the same suspension set up, Try Philj on here (jackson tuning).. Poly brushing? Would make a bit of a difference.. But not sure if it'll be worth the 50ish quid on a 1.0 that your not planning on keeping?

Not sure on how low it was back then, been running KW coilovers since '99

well i may like to keep the salooon if i ever get it :> for a while so i want to put my stamp on it.... maybe a nice little 1.4 3 pot diesel engine from the lupo for something different ... plus i loved that engine

I paid around a grand in 1999, a bit cheaper now though, but not much

The 3-pot diesel will be a hassel to fit
