PETROL TANK

Featured Replies

1994 POLO 1.00 petrol , an excellent runner except the petrol tank has sprung a leak on the filler pipe, where can I get one, can they be repaired, can you get a cheap replacement or is it scrap time? Are they easy to fit.

Your best bet would be a tank from Fuel Tanks Direct. They're supposed to be amongst the best for fit on the pattern fuel tanks. I would advise painting in Hammerite or POR15 and then maybe applying a coat of under body sealant to ensure it doesnt suffer from rot as quickly as the original tank.

Fitting the tank can be undertaken yourself if you have a few tools handy. You'll need to drop the rear axle on the drivers side to give you room to get the filler neck out from the inner arch, and the exhaust could do with coming off the rear hangers. Swapping the lift pump over isn't too bad. The biggest pain I found was trying to get the tank to sit on a 'ledge' on the underside of the chassis that helps hold the tank in place. Finally make sure you retain the foam type padding that sits between the tank and the retaining strap so you dont get any nasty vibrations.

Karl.

Thanks for the info, contacted after finding which model it was and hopefully can sort it
