Is there any way of making my steering lighter? I drive a mk 4, and the steering is so heavy, my b/f who's on here (vwmk3jon) has had various mk 3's all having considerably lighter steering than me, and it just seems so much effort to turn the wheel in comparison!

The tyres are standard ones for a mk4 so there not stupidly big ones, and i dnt really wanna get any smaller ones as it may start to look like a pram!

Anyone got any ideas, or are all 6n's like this?

The Mk4 is a heavier car I believe than the Mk3 so the steering will be a bit heavier, but surely on the move it should be fine and light enough.

If you have just bought the car you should soon get used to the steering after a while driving around in it.

buy another mk4 with power steering?

Buy a mk3 or go to the gym and beef up a bit You'll soon get used to it honey.

^^ yeah,i know someone who drives to the gym in a car with power steering,and i cant quite get my head around it.

Mine IS a gym,but then i take the stairs instead of the lift etc anyway - and once you're used to not giving into all those little power assisted things that make us weak,your strength and fitness soon adapts to them.

Not all Mk3's have light steering ... You should try mine with a tiny steering whell and big old 6J 15" on it .. Spose ima skinny guy tho .. lol .. Seriously tho

yeah i've only had it...1 month, and i walk to work so i dnt drive it everyday!

will have to check tyre pressure, dnt think i've done that since i've got it whoops!

as for weights at the gym not a great fan lol i'll have to start on the tiny ones!

I'm a skinny guy too, but i love heavy steering, makes me feel a bigger part of the car. And i drove my polo with 17" wheels on the front once, that was an experiance and a good workout hehe.

17"'s?? Bloody hell! That must have worn you out everytime you drove your car! lol.

I was told when enquiring about heavy steering it may be the suspension top mounts are gone. apparently that makes it harder work.

Its damn hard work! Makes my mk3 with a 80mm drop feel like its got power steering! The mk4 has five spoke 13s with 165/13s fitted.

Worn top mounts can cause it,yes there'd likely be a rubbery feel.
