Window removal

Featured Replies

Got the front one out using the patented, break it then throw it a bit. But after a technique that will not waste more of my money. How do i remove the windows without breaking them? I did try to be gentle but that really didn't work out for me. Any help muchos appreciated. (car: mk2 loon)

Anybody? please help me!

Windows shatter when flexed. No need to flex them, though.

Gonna start with the rear quarters, here. Right.. Inside the car, give the top curved part of the window a push with your left hand (if you're right handed) and start tucking the seal under the seam by pushing it down from the headlining to the glass with your right fingertips. Dont try to push the glass out, just a little to assist in getting that seal tucked under. As you work your way along, you'll be able to push the window a touch further - but dont try to push it out yet. Just work your way along, until the top line and halfway down the slope is tucked under. Now you want to get in the upper square corner and apply some push there, whilst getting that corner out. Once the top of the window is clear by a good 10mm,you can get outside and pull the top of the window away carefully. Sorted.

I've not done the back window of a saloon, but i have of a coupe.

Same thing, starting in a top corner - just dont apply too much to one corner at a time.

Most important thing to remember here. The only reason you're pushing on the glass is to get that seal tucked against the edge of the seam. You're not trying to push the glass out until at least 35% of the seam has been tucked.

Doors are easy - simple disassembly.

 WHAT THE! What are you doing to my old car man. I'm kinda wishing I`d kept it now.

You`ve got my number and I've taken more glass in and out of cars than I care to remember. If you ever want to sell the car in the future please give me first refusal as I will find a way of buying it back.

Back window of a loon is the same technique as the side glass only a bit easier as their isnt a curve on them (not as bad anyway)

You could have baught a set of tinted glass already out that I had sitting there.
