hi all. I'm new on here and having just bought a 1991 polo gt am after a little advice regarding the removal of some of the trim. I'm after the smooth clean euro look and am interested in removing the plastic arch extensions, skirts and rubbing strips from the car. my question is how are these items secured? the last thing i want to do is to remove them only to be left with nasty marks and fixings. any advice would be much appreciated

The side strips are held on by like a glue / tape substance .

You can get that stuff off with a bit of hard work. I think there is a post on here search in the search bar about removing side strips .

Wheel arches are pop riveted on the inside of the arch ..

The lower side skirts are pop riveted on the underside .

You maywell find rust underneath them however.

thankyou very much. i haven't actually got the car at home yet. I'm picking it up this sunday. is it possible to pull the tops of the arches back and have a look down the gap to see if there's any rust or is it more likely to be a case of remove them before ill be able to tell?

Removing them is the only way. There will be some rust,the only question is - how much.. There will be holes in the sill and probably some pressings in the rear arch for clips,aswell. All this can be sorted out easily by a body shop.
