would coilovers be stiffer than a normal lowering kit? coz my tyres rub the arches wen i turn! car cant go any lighter either!

not necessarily, depends on the damping rate/spring rate of the springs and shocks

I've got it on 60/60 i think at the moment but wen i go over a bump the tyre rubs up against the arch! that with only the front seats and me in it if i have a passenger its even worse!

What suspension kit, wheels (size?) and tyres (size?) are you running?

phil j 60/40 kit, 8x13 weller and 7x13 mattigs all on 175/50/13 was going to put coilovers on

the back to stiffen it up but will it improve it?

Arches rolled? Wellers never seem to have VW suitable offsets...

if you put mk1 golf coilovers on you would idealy need to remove the helper spring, because they are for a mk1 (which is a heaver car) the helper spring copresses, but on the mk3 polo it does'nt so you get alot of excess movment/roll etc

all the helper spring does is prevent the main spring from deslocation when its unable to cope with extreme extension and helps further travel. !

If you could find out the spring rate of the springs on the coilovers, it would be possible to buy stiffer springs pretty cheaply (£30 for a pair or so dependant on length/rate), as all coilovers share either 2.25" (most likely) or 1.9" diameter springs.

trust me you dont need a stiffer spring rate, but if you want maxium tuneablity go for the fk Konigsport coilovers . (damping adjustable)

i wish they were that cheap! last pair i got cost me £53 and i got the wrong ones!

if youve got helpers on the back they are they're for a reason. if you dont run them pretensioned without a helper the springs are all over the gaff over bumps. which means noisy rear suspension. helper springs are only about £10 each, just get softer ones
