i need to respray a set of 6n electric wing mirrors.

i need to know:

1. can the mirror housing (the painted bit) be removed from the base plate (black plastic bit).

2. and how can i remove the mirror glass with out cracking it

+plus put it back in

any ideas plz

I'm guessing the glass can be poped out, just dont want to be to focefull n crack it.

anyone know the best way to do it. any one

i cant imagine what the tool would luk like, I'm going to see if i can pop it out wit a fork or something tomoz.

Um my mirror glass kept falling out so i did some hexperimentating with it. sod the vw tool, i used a flat screwdriver, don't put it in too far, just far enough to get it behind the mirror glass, otherwise you will foul the motor and make it 10 x harder for yourself, then just with slight pressure lever it out using the moulding as leverage point. do it from the outside edge of the glass cos it's easier and the heater wires aren't in the way then either just be careful with it and it will be fine.

You say this but a pedestrian smacked my wingmirror the other day and the glass fell out (attached to the wire) and I put it back in and it works fine.

But I agree, a flat screwdriver carefully will lever it off fine.

I was thinking of doing this aswell.

What colour are you thinking of painting them? black?

Because i see you've got a white mk4, would you mind posting some pics when you have finished please?

I have just finished paint a section of sill and even though i masked it up quite well [Even though i say so myself] That damn primer got EVERYWHERE. If theres on tip for painting i could give it's if you can take it off and paint it, do that

i forgot all about this thread, to busy paint these dam mirrors lol.

yep u guessed right *mk4 amy* gloss black to go on my white mk4, and the mirrors are 6n standard ones/ not stubby's or anything so are a bit differnt in my eye .

just leting the paint stand for a few day before polishing, but they have turned out well and i think will look smart on the car, il post some pic up when there on.

oh i cracked both good mirror glasses trying to get them out (didnt luk at this thread after a day or so ) so got it so wrong.

any ideas how to clip new mirror glass in with out cracking it lol. thinking of greassing up the clips might help a bit.

i dont know how to put the glass back in, I'm just gonna risk mine and mask them up really well. hahaha, i'll probably still bodge it tho.

i want m3 mirrors, i love them.

I can't decide what to do, i want to buy new mirrors and paint them black to go on my canyon red 6n. but i can't decide whether to use secondhand 6n mirrors [and have spares] or these also in black Here
