VW badge in sapphire

Featured Replies

My gf has a talent in jewellery asides other arts and my love for cars mixed with us talking lead me to a brainwave.

Now, a REAL sapphire VW badge sized disc will cost about £700,000 - maybe more, so obviously a cheaper alternative is warranted. Now, replica sapphire is still a bit dear - £200+ for a 60mm disc - so then comes Swarovski crystal - or hardened glass with a gemstone like finish.

Obviously, as it's glass, any colour can be applied - including sapphire.

So then the price tumbles into an affordable - £25 for the glass, £50 in total.

Now, I know the VW badge is NOT sapphire coloured but it is closer than most other gemstone like colours.

Now, add a chrome or even lead cutout on top of a precision cut disc to make it look like a gemstone and you have a very nice, shiny VW badge for not a lot more than one made of LEDs.

Obviously, it won't be to everyones taste and is quite blingin, however - for originality - I've certainly never seen one.

I've asked her if it can be done by Christmas and she said she'll see. I hope to eventually have one on my Polo match (when I buy it in Feb 08) and if they look good enough, may pop alloys on the match and add them to the alloys and the rear.

Just wanted to know some people's opinions - or if they'de seen one before...

Are you mad?

ha I wanted sumthing like this for my VW, crystals of glitter or just sumthing shiney, my b/f said I was mad tho.

It all down to your taste at the end of the day, I haven't seen anything like it so it would be different,

Nah mate, just thought it'd be different. It wouldn't stand out that much - my kind of mod, but when you look close it's "ooh...it is different!"

I'm not big into modding, but I thought this would look good

Argos jewellers sell silver/gold letters fake-diamond encrusted - might get 1600 on my cam cover if they do numbers - doesnt really suit the car, though. Maybe 330i might make more sense on the boot lid of a black saloon on 20in rims.

Its a bit to "Innit Bredgin, Look at the ching-a-ling"

I agree with MK...More on the back of a 330.

Just my 2p.

Sounds a bit random

Wouldnt last 5 mins on the back of my car in Derby either !
