Speakers and tweaters direct to amp

Featured Replies

Right been doing alot of reading and still cant get my head around something.

i have a mk5 - simple setup all standard two front speakers and 2 front tweaters.

i want to connect these 4 speakers direct to an amp. - they are all currently connected direct to my HU - can i get an adapter that can connect to that block of wires that normaly go direct to my HU but instead connect to my amp?

whats the best way of going about this?

Cheers in advance, Alex.

imo i would run new wires from the amp to the 2 speakers and 2 tweeters. that way you will be upgradin the speaker wire, which will produce better sound aswell.

what i would do is get hold of an old headunit loom out of a scrap car (type doesnt matter so long as its got iso blocks) this will plug into the car speaker loom. I would then run speaker wires from behind the headunit direct to the amp and join the wires to the 'scrap' speaker iso block this way you dont damage either the car or the headunit loom and you also avoid making the mistake of accidentally connecting the amp o/ps to the headunit speaker o/ps (i made this mistake once and blew my headunit up!)if you've done it right you should only have the power iso block connected to the headunit and the speaker o/ps will not be connected to anything. if thats not the case for gods sake do not turn it on! one last tip is to remove the fuse for the headunit, as this will safegaurd against any silly mishaps!

right i think i get what your on about so something like this:

standard cables -> wiring harness loom thingy - > iso to rca thingy

then just iso cables to the amp? would that work?

sorry this is my 1st audio install and still getting to grips with it all!

one more thing the outputs from that iso to rca adapter are 4 rca thats two for the front speakers and two for the front tweeters - correct?

doesnt your amp have rca pre outs?

speakers should connect to the amp and connect the amp via rcas to the HU?

in a word no! you head unit should have rca pre outs (if its any good) you run the rca cables to the amp from the headunit.the speaker wires and loom i was suggesting was purely so a. you dont damage any of the cars loom, and b. you dont have to mess around trying to run new wires into the door. so basically all you are doing is extending the std speaker wires back to the amp instead of the headunit. get it now?!

I wont be using a HU - The goal of this is to be able to connect my speakers to a PC. - ie a normal audio jack.

i've not bought the amp yet as i want to make sure i got all my connectors right!

well just buy a 3.5mm jack to rca lead!
