DIY Roll Cage...

Featured Replies

Hi there, I'm planning on building aroll cage for my mk3 polo coupe...

I've drawn up some very simple designs that i will be trying,

What i want to know is what bore tubing should i use?

Has anyone got any scaled plans they would like to share, or pictures...

Cheers, Dan

Iv also thought about this idea :)

I'm looking forward to your progress mate, good luck!

i work for a motorsport materials company that supply all the metals and plastics used in motorsport, it depends if you are using the car for a show cage or whether u plan to race it?

if so how fast will you be going?

that merlin motorsport is using a 2.6mm w.t which will be heavy as anything!

we have customers that specialise in building cages so you might find it will be easier and cheaper for them to fit it for you

give me a ring when u know what you wanna do

well, that is minimum FIA spec for rollcages in CDS. only way to go lighter is to use T45.

i personally wouldnt make my own cage. every home made cage I've seen has been a terrible fit. i will be getting mine done at protection and performance in skipton

thats what i mean. 2.6mm for a show cage, there is not much point it will be excessive. if you are racing then dont consider making the cage yourself.

yeah dan evans at protection and performance uses material from us. he is excellent at cages, especially the 4 x 4 ones

T45 is our speciality

again, if your not sure give us a ring.

depends on spec really. i would guess anywhere from 400+ for a bolt in? best bet is to ring

i will be making a cage for my polo soon!

i only need it for track days so no need for it to be over the top!

pluse i have an excellent welder who builds off raod buggy space frames so no problem there!

it will be a standard 6 point roll cage how heavy would it be using CDS or equivalent meterials?

CDS is all you can use, unless you have a large wallet
