Afternoon All,

After our Edition Madness, I have a lot to do with the car but mostly after getting lost several times both there and back and the fact I HATE turning around with a passion - SatNav is on the cards....

After looking around and speaking to a guy in the smoking room he said his dad paid about £250 and then bought the european maps on an SD card on top which is pretty much what i'm looking for.

Along with the UK i am planning on doing a road trip next year around Europe, The Dam, The Ring and a few other sights to be seen...

I also need a new mobile and thought - hey i'll get a free deal where I get one of the TomTom units free but every time you look at the line rental or contract length it is 18months @ about £50.

Therefore I can sort out a brand new K810i (that I have wanted for sometime) and then my question is can I buy some add-ons to use TomTom on the phone or will I need an actual SatNav unit? If it can be setup on the phone will I be able to use European maps?

Sorry for the Dumbass questions - Hoping someone more in the know can lead me toward ze light!

you would have to buy a phone and sat nav seperate unless its a palm pc or a nokia n95 if i rember right

You should be able to install it on any phone that runs the windows mobile operating system in theory but it will depend on the memory and spec of the phone, especially if you want to start adding extra maps. There is a nokia (called the navigator I think) that is a phone with built in gps (see link).

you need a symbian phone, i very much doubt a k810i uses that s/w. I've got a n95 and i cant get the bloody sat nav to work!

if your lookin at a SE phone mainly the p910i`s etc will run the tomtom/route 66 with a gps receiver. if not a s60 nokia will do the same job.

also you will need a memory card of at least 256mb i think.

Hellfrauds are knocking out satnavs at ok prices at the mo, picked up a garmin nuvi 250 for £199, now £169 (grrr!) it has full uk and european mapping plus spped camera warnings - even tells you where they usually put the mobile ones. Its a great bit of kit and £199 will easily be payed back in saved fuel from not getting lost and not getting caught speeding!

Just a thought, O2 XDA Orbit.. supposed to be quite good, a phone that does everything you want with built in gps reciever
