Basically one of my wheel bearings has gone. the tracking is also ballsed up. Thing is I'm only driving it properly for one more week, should i bother fixing it and how much is it going to cost me? i really cba with a huge bill, and i paid out money for tracking not 2 months ago (not my fault its gone again, bloody male drivers blocking me in so no choice but to go off a 6ft kerb)

I'm always wary of dodgy bearings after hearing about an old boss of mine's story. The wheel came off his MG at speed. Killed his bird and landed him with a metal hinge for an ankle.

I drove mine like that for 8mths before fixing it for the MOT, after hearing that story though i would not reccomend it.

But what i mean is will it be ok just left standing like till i get home in 3 months and can afford to fix it? The boyf will be driving it from time to time, and i dont want him to rag it and mess it up even more.

Lol i would try telling him that but he wouldnt listen. And not alot i can do from 70 miles away haha. Its fine he breaks it he pays to fix it, not a problem lol. And if i get a speeding ticket it will be redirected in his direction lol.

just get it fixed, you're going to have to do ti sooner or later. No point waiting till your car falls apart whilst driving it in my opinion.

A wheel bearing should be half and hours labour at most I'd have thought. Although I don't know if they're insanely complicated on mk4's. I wouldn;t have tought so though. And parts should be no more than a fiver really

i dotn know if this helps, but on the mk4 16v, the wheels bearings are tapered, i.e. they need tightening, not replacing. so you wont need to pay for any parts unless your mechanic is stingy like mine and charges you for copper grease! as keeno said, its about half an hours work on each side.

hmm, they might be able to do it in an hour. Also, the part is about £40, if you are paying £5 for a front wheel bearing then I dread to think what the quality of it must be like.
