Having removed the rear strut, i discover that the entire upper assembly appears to be fused and won't allow me to transfer it to the new shock insert. GSF only stock bump stops. IS there any way of seperating them?

The same applies at the front. My lowering kit was just springs and shocks for front and rear. The front shocks appear to be fused into the hub, as far as i can see. Is there anyway of seperating them?

Otherwise, I'm guessing its time to bend over and make a call to VAG for new parts.

the front suspension is the bit with shock inserts, the rears should just be a case for swapping old for new. for the fronts you remove the whole strut, take off the spring, then unscrew the cap to remove the shock insert. I'm sure there are some exploded diagrams on here which you should be able to find if you do a search.

Hmm maybe thats where i went wrong at the front then... As for the rear, i can't remove the top mounts and bump stops etc from the old strut. My new shock absorbers for the rear are literally a yellow tube with a silver rod protruding, i need all the flat metal plates etc for the top and i doubt i can get them off. Or is there a particular method to it?

For the rear.. I'm assuming is the little discs that are rusted on.. Use a hammer.. knock it in a circular motion.. carefully so you dont bend it.

MAKE SURE YOU USE SPRING COMPRESORS THO!!!! I can't literate that enough..
