I bought a N 'reg MK4 polo a few months back and all is fine with it (well i say that, its a crappy 1litre; but it does me for now and thats irrelevant) when i first went to look at it at the place where I bought it, I noticed someone had been having a bit of fun with the passenger side wing mirror. It had a couple of cracks running down it and some smart alec decided to sellotape it together. It looked hideous as you can probably imagine.

I didnt let that put me off getting the car though, as everything else was fine and i desperately needed wheels. I always had the intention of sorting it out.

A couple of weeks back I went back to my car to find that some nugget had smacked into the unlucky wing mirror and it looked (even more) worse for wear; the cracks widended and the actual mirror slipped out - when i put the mirror back in, the electrics don't have any effect. That reminded me that I needed to sort it out, so I ordered a replacement and it should be with me soon.

Question is though; is it just a case of pulling the old mirror off and straight swapping/plugging the electrics in. Or should I disconnect the battery?

I know this is probably in the haynes manual but I haven't got round to getting one yet.

the whole mirror comes off with the removal of 3 screws underneath the plate inside the door, just pull the plate off, undo the screws and job done

the electrics are simply unplugging and plugging back in, no need to disconnect the battery

10 min job as i did it to mine take door card off to unplug mirror wires and 3 screws behild the black plastic bit that unclips job done
