15" wheels on a mk3

Featured Replies

as above really tryin to take my own direction with my car as much as possible, i currently have a set of perreli p's waitin for tyres to go on but even tho i love the slots a cant see me keepin them for long, so i have beeen trying to think what to replace them with. however it seem the whole 13" 7's at the front 8's at the back has been done to death and i'm tryin to open my choices up by including 15's aswell. i have a 60mm drop and i was wondering if anyone had run 15's with this drop and for general opinions on how the look and maybe even pics of peoples mk3 running 15's, all opinions welcome!!

(altho the may be ignored in my final decision  )

I'd go for 14s or 15s. As you say, the staggered 13s look has been done by everyone. I'm going for 14x6s all round. If you get a set of 15x6s or 15x7s and then dump some 165/50 Bridgestone Potenzas on there then your car will probably handle better than any with different widths front/rear. Tidy stretch as well on the 7s if you're into that kind of thing...

Be fun trying to get rid of scrubbage though, even with the 165/50s. I'd go for some Compomotives. MLs would be sweet!

they are fairly sweet found a site recently that did them in pretty much any width or diameter u can imagin altho am not sure they were comps but look really similar.

on a side note got your car going again yet?

What site would that be? I've gone off my rh cups and was thinking selling them and getting some minilite style wheels.

There are reasons why things are popular... ;)

I think 14x7s with 165/60 14s stretched across them would look quite good. I'm really liking the high-profile stretch at the moment!

15" look sweet on a Mk3 ..

May be a bit biased though

15" 7J wheels handle like the doggs bollocks in the dry ..

It can be rather slippy inthe wet though but you gotta take your time ..

lot of people slate 15" rims on mk3s and similar but i cant see why personally. 15" rims gives you better choice in tyres, especially performance as 15s are more common in general, bigger brake clearence you could quite happily have some massive brakes under 15s with the right calipers.

mine will be wearing 15s next year for definite

This is mine on 15's

Noooooooooo don't say that :shock::shock::shock:

had 15s on my last coupe. hated the arch rubbing and lack of rear passengers due to the rubbing but you do get a great range of tyres and as i've found out, 13s on a 80mm drop limit you to where you can drive!

Craig....I told you the GT would come with 13" BBS RA's 185/55/13.I

never said anything about these little beauties coming with it

IMO 15's on a mk3 is all about tyre choice and offsets, Its something i've learnt from from experience.

Some 165/175/185 width low pro's and ET's around 25-35 should see you right.

15s with a skinny tyre and the right offset should be no problem on a mk3. Specially a coupe, maybe bit of headache on a square.

I like the stance of mine on 15s, and I like the way it drives too.

Contrary to what people say, having run mine on 14x6 and 15x6.5 (195/45 tyres on each) I didn't find the driving experience was very different, but the big difference was tyres. I can usually get 195/45 15 Eagle F1s on the same day I order them, and if I fancy a different brand I can take my pick. If I go for 195/45 14s they need to be ordered in, and it presents a considerably more limited choice.

That said, I've just bought a set of 14s as track wheels. They're going on for when I go to the Nurburgring, because although I don't get any scrubbage during normal road use, even with 3 passengers, the extra downforce on the Ring is a different matter.

^ please please please be careful cause I love your car! Its like a Club Polo treasure

Haha, if it dies at least I'll have the trademark 15s as a souvenir. :)

I could stick them on the E30 BMW I'm still after...

(don't worry I'll be careful, need to learn the track before I can give it full beans)

Job seems to be working well for you. Prior to it you seemed to be turning into a miserable old man who just winged all the time!

Tell me about it!

I get a car to test every week as of the 25th, saving petrol and wear and tear on mine, and allowing me to put money back into new stuff for the Polo.

I've done two launches this year (Defender and Fiat 500) and I've got two more coming up (Polo Bluemotion next week and Chrysler 300C in December)

I'm finally being paid a reasonable, if not fantastic, wage.

I'm in the same office as Car, which has led to a by-line in their Secret New Cars section for my pics of the new M3 saloon.

I'm also in the same office as Max Power, which got me into the drivers seat of a Caterham the other week and is going to see a Club Polo member get featured in the next few months.

I love it!

I did, however, come worryingly close to giving up, because getting here was shit, drained all my finances and left me doing really crappy jobs back home.

The Ring trips aren't work related though.
