I am gettin some 14" alloys, what size tyres would be good? 185/60/r14? Any help would be appreciated !

How wide are they?

185/60 is too high a profile for a Polo, the speedo would be miles out.

185/50 is a close match.

I'm running 185/60/14's on my MK3 and from what i can tell, the speedo is bang on at lower speeds, and slightly too low at higher speeds.

Checked this out using a satnav (not too sure how accurate they are though?!?!??!

now 30mph on clocks is 29mph on satnav

where as on my 165/65/14, it showed as 26mph on satnav

unfortunately at higher speeds its out,

70 on clocks is about 73mph

185 60 14 is bigger than standard so you should be going faster than the speedo suggests.

you want 185 55 14 or 185 50 for the correct rolling radius

185/50 I'm running lowered 60mm

I have 185/60 on mine. Trouble is that the tyre walls look too big in my opinion so I'm looking for lower profile tyres.

185/50 or 195/45 would be easily available lower profiles.

You could go 195/40 if you want as well...

But the last time i tried 195 they were up against the suspension, whyis that? remember i got a squareback.

I've found 165/55s to be the dogs, unless you have wide rims (over 6.5j) in which case i'd go for either 185/50s or 195/45s.

what profile were they? if they were balloon tyres then i'm not suprised, also wheels offsets and amount of lowerage play a big factor, not to mention the actual polo itself which had fairly large engineering tolerances on the bodywork and fittings when compared to a newer model!

This has been covered so many times,why dont people use the search function? 185x60 are far too big,and knock your speedo and gearing right out. 185x55 are big,175x55 are only 0.6% bigger than standard. 185x50 are also good,a fraction under. 175x50 are quite tiny and 165x55 are almost as tiny but with some stretch.
