Right, am trying to take the entire steering assembly off my mk2, hav got everything possible off so the whole lot is loose. At the base of the column almost inline with the pedals there is a clamp holding the 2 rods together, i have loosened this off all the way and tried to split them but they seem set solid, any ideas of how to seperate these as its getting quite annoying now thanks!

I've given it all i've got, its stuck fast!, will eat 2 or 3 weetabix tomorrow and go for it again. cheers!

I seem to remember when I removed the one from my g40 I found it easier to take off the steering rack and pull it from that side, although having no engine in at the time made that option a bit easier/possible.

I've taken the clamp holding the two rods together off completely now, turns out their actually interlocked meaning i'll have to bend the end of one of the rods to slot over the raised section on the other, the metal is quite thick though so this may be quite tricky :S

how much do they overlap?

can you see the top of the inner shaft through the split in the outer one?

if so get a stout screwdiver in the top of the split and lever like a demon!

quite hard to tell if this would work as can't see much.

Can see the top yes, (which is partly why its so frustrating) but they are locked together pretty hard, i guess i'll have to lever the rod open to get them apart. Hopefully the 4th screwdriver will work....
