Stretched tires might be a little more 'dangerous' than normal tyres to the people who don't take care of tyre pressures. Stretched tire is bit more dependent on the pressure to be driveable than a normal set up. So you just need to know your machinery as usual.

175 on an 8" looks good but scares me. I was always a bit worried when driving on em.

175 on a 7 doesn't really look that stretched, but at least i don't fear for my life when going round corners

To be honest, it has got a lot to do with the make if tyres too. Fulda's are very slim, Pirelli P7 and Sime very wide. Dunlops Sp9000 is built to stretch, and will cope better than most

Was about to point this out. Tyres with a very square shoulder and stiff side walls are not happy being stretched and are more likely to pop off the rim. That's basically any high performance, low profile road tyre. If you look at the specifications you'll see that they have a very small rim width range, ie 6"-7", or 8"-9", rather than the 4.5"-6.5" etc that more budget tyres will have.
