HELP! My Daughter was recently invovled in a 4 car shunt in which she was hit by a Merc and pushed into the car in front which hit the car in front of it. The Merc driver admitted full responsibility and her Polo was taken away by Direct Line to be sorted. The main areas of damage were the rear tailgate and bumper(front and rear) and also the nearside rear wing was dented as well(just about where the petrol filler is on the opposite rear wing). Problem is the garage that are doing the repair have said that the dent on the rear wing is not connected to this accident and are refusing to fix it-has anyone else heard of this after a rear end shunt? Is the rear wing designed to dent like this in a shunt? Where does she stand on this? Can she demand that the car be fixed properly as it was not there before the accident? Direct Line seem to be siding with Engineers report of it not being connected to accident.HELP.

Hi, i think it depends on how much direct line where willing to pay for it, it might be worth giving there "Customer services" a call and see what they say.

the garage must be talking out of their ass. the rear quaters fold up fairly easy on the mk4, guess it is part of the crumple zone. i would demand it was fixed, and if they try and tell you its not ecconomical to repair and would be writen off, tell them you dont care cos it wasnt your fault and continue to demand the car is repaired. i take it direct line are the other persons insurance? if so ring your insurance tell them what direct line have said and get your insurance co to do something about it. they are clearly trying to save money. approved bodyshops tend to be crap too, so make sure you check the car thoroughly before accepting the work.

your insurance should always give you the option of taking the car to a garage of your choice for repair estimate. It doesn't always have to be thier garage.

The only reason it goes to a chosen garage by the insurance, is because they have an agreement with that garage and they can guarantee you a courtesy car whilst yours is being repaired.

Take your car to somewhere else and get a different quote, surely you know someone who works in a garage or someone can reccomend you a garage?Only hassle you have is getting the car between garages
