basicaly the height adjustment on my polo is playing up. you unlock the steering wheel to raise it up and lock it in the position you want it, but if you push the steering wheel down when locked (ie your hands are just resting on it ), the wheel falls back down into your lap.

any ideas how to fix it ?

No,but it cant be too hard to work out. I mean its a basic unit - its a cam design,right? It may be a worn component,or something has come loose.

Id take the plastic off and look at the mechanism. Operate it and see how it works. Lock it,push down,and note what is actually happening when it lets go.

Simple problem solving - fault finding and rectification.

It may be that its a simple and small bolt-on part that will cost peanuts - or simply need adjusting.

And if its all press-riveted together as one unit (unlikely),you may need to get a complete unit from a breakers.

But I've never heard of this before,doesnt seem a common problem,so you might be lucky.
