A Mk3 1500 G60 is born, Geoffrey's heart is in Geoffrey.

I'd need a G60 charger or Eaton wouldn't I? Haven't got that kinda money (yet), but probably best to get the damn thing on the road first :-D

Not necessarily, there's plenty of other superchargers out there. It's not as simple as just sticking it on though. You're going to need to do a lot of work to the engine before hand.

I think in all honesty if you really want a charged engine, look around for a G60 engine complete and stick that in.

True, gonna be a lot of work just to try and get her on the road at the mo so think I'll put on back burner for a while

One thing at a time, but if you get your head down and get stuck into the car, there's only a weeks work for you honey.

For people who know what they're doing, I haven't a sodding clue

It's the best way to learn though honey, and we're always on the end of a phone for advice ;)

It's a toughy, but I'd complete the engine first. You can make a blanking plate yourself easy enough and the other bits are easy enough to find. And the engine will be mad when you've finished it.

I expect the engine will produce too much torque for the 085, just sold the cup-box to make way for bigger and better things

I fully expect I'm going to munch through gear boxes, but I've got plans in the pipeline so that this won't be a problem in the future ;)

Ideas, ideas, ideas :-D

We all need this in our life

Too bad the VW engineers was not allowed to develop a stronger box for the G40, just like they wanted too....

You need to build an engine to have a knock at breaking the 02A box Frode.. or else it will be like having a 4x4 to go do 2 miles on road to the shops each week.

A bit like it is now then. Did 274 km in the G40 last year, done about 180 km more so far this year. Might be up and running again this weekend :-)

I don't do German, or have much common sense.

Is that a conversion kit to use a 02A in a Polo shell?

They put the gear set from one box into the casing of another I think...I presume 02A into 085 casing...requires machining and what not...I think...

And i was soooo looking forward to a drive in the g40 as it would be my first one......

Haha stuff that, bring on the semi dieseled G60'ed 1.5 Geoffrey that is gunna fly like shit off a shovel and make all

other cars seem like hairdryers!

Cant wait to hear Geoffrey roar guys, amazing effort has blato gone into this so fingers crossed he will make

scoobys and and other tossers cars cry very soon!!!

:smirk::thumbsup:

He already ate scoobies for dinner in his original form. He's gonna be rampant as Fook :-D

Can't wait to actually drive him.

Will let you know how the next fettling sesh goes ;)

They cut of the mounting flanges of both casings and fit the 085 "flange" to the 02A. This makes it possible to mate the 02A to the Polo block. You then need custom engine mounts, custom clutch and custom driveshafts. A wire shifter is also needed (VWM-Style). You also need to mod the chassie leg to clear the box

Haha

So it's a bit of a bitch then. Not sure I could live with a cable shift, but maybe they aren't all crap.

Custom engine mounts sounds pretty easy but custom clutch and driveshafts make me weep.

Does nobody do uprated gearsets for an 085 then?

Depends what you mean. There are various interesting Berg Cup 'boxes available for the same price as a mint G40, but generally they're all uber low ratios suitable for the torque-challenged but high-PS motors that run in that series.

There were ~40 6-speed sequential 'boxes made to fit an 085 bell-housing, with cassette LSDs and equal-length driveshafts. The main order was for VW Motorsport, but I know of at least one that was sold to a privateer. Not sure on what ratios were available, but am guessing they were pretty much custom.

The retail on one was circa £12k, and the manufacturer sold the rights a while ago - I'd suggest that no more are likely to be built by the new owner now that the new Polo uses big block motors and 'boxes for its performance models, and whilst the original manufacturer was making 'boxes for the likes of the Veyron and Ford GT those 'boxes were small-fry anyway.

this is just a classic picture lol putin an engine together in the kitchen,

cant beleive I've just noticed this thread, its guna b a monster and cant wait to see the figures it produces

Skoda Felicia kit car stuff is what you want. 6-sp sequential

You can get them used for around 6-8K EUR and new around 12K as Andy says. Sorg also do adapters so you can fit Sadev box for Clios, not that they are any cheaper though, but easier to find

100 mph topspeed though

Edited by G40NUT

Isn't there also a company that makes custom gearboxes to your specification for around £6k also?

 the kitchen seemed the best place to build it, clean, plenty of room and warm - unlike the garage, although my dining room carpet does look like an oily garage floor now

eat, sleep and breathe engines,

There are still traces of thbuild dotted around the house now.........& a few more mods that have been done today!!! :unibrow:

sorry for being silly, what engine isit? i thought g60's were a 1800??

it looks like a g40 engine with a g60 charger?

It's neither. The block is a 1W, which is a diesel.

excuse the mechanical retards question is this a deisel or jus a deisel block that will be runnin on petrol?

You are correct Original G60's are indeed 1.8 lumps

This engine is a diesel bottom end, with a G40 head, so it will look like a 1.3 G40 lump (slightly taller) this is coupled with a G60 charger.......& it's capacity is near as dam it a; 1500cc :unibrow:
