No I think the head cracked because of the water being let in by the head gasket, hydro'd the head. He was only driven steady, he needs a good 500 miles to run him and the charger in so there was no boost or rapeage involved

It'll all be sorted out soon enough, just not as soon as I would have liked. Would have been interesting to see him run at the RTOC day, don't think the GIT will stand as much of a chance

Ah well will post updates as I have them :-)

I think you'll find the reason why in this pic. Headgaskets should be fitted dry

I guess this didn't help much either, no ic

pics of pistons after!? do they still look as good?

we all build engines in our own way !!!!!!!.i decided to run a cheap head gasket as i wanted the head removing after a couple of days driviving .personally as the engine is over bored and the head gasket over hangs the cylinder bore very slightly .i belevie this is the reason the gasket got hot and as a result failed.Iwas also the one driving the car ,when i saw that it was putting out white smoke and decided to stop the test drive

sorry i have already wiped them ......but yep they look sweet still

as the engine is over bored and the head gasket over hangs the cylinder bore very slightly

id go with that.. but the right headgasket is only cheap!! a metal one from GSF with a 76.9mm bore was about £12

Yeah, we've already come to the conclusion that it was probably a mistake running this HG, but we all learn from our mistakes. I've got no issues at all with the way that dave built the engine, I was as much involved in the decision about the HG. We live and learn

I don't think that the lack of IC played any part in the problem as he didn't run on boost at all.

I am in the process of measuring up for new boost hoses that will fit with the 60, so once I've got them and a new head I think it should all be ok.

The engine looks like it's been running fine for the miles that it has done, so with the metal HG, new head and IC on it will be running sweet as a nut (hopefully) :-D

All the fun of the fair.......if we never made any mistakes we would never learn!?!?!?!?

Shame he won't be at RTOC strip, was looking forward to a blast, but hey ho.....the Caddy will have to drop the Renault boys now!!!:lol::?

The one i'm using is 77.5mm bore :-)

It's a shame this won't be ready for the RTOC event, was looking forward to see it raise some eyebrows.

Been using one of those gaskets on andy's car with no problems for a few k now...

Hope you get it sorted soon :-)

Yep ,its one of them . :crybaby:

Actually, I tell a lie, we used the proper gasket on Andy's car- prob why it's not popped (yet) :-D

Hope you sort it out, it's an arse when you make a mistake especially an expensive one, but I suppose all you can do is learn from it.

Bort- why the hylomar on the block face though, I'm genuinely interested as to the reason why- possibly lead to the failure- or contributed to it??

Cant someone sort out a loan head for the RTOC day out? Would be a shame for such an awesome weapon to miss out on kicking the renault boys asses! Or is the head different to a standard G one?

Can't wait to see some footage of this when its all sorted again, bet its gona be a real flying machine!

i decided to use hylomar as a dry head gasket can stick to the mating faces and somtimes be a shit to scrape off ,i have used it many times on head gaskets with no probs before .once the head is tightend 99% of the hylomar is squished out anyway

my reason for putting it on is to fill any slight I'm perfections in the head gasket to remove any trapped air as warm air expands in my opinion a metal headgasket should not need any

Yeh I agree, would be a shame to see it miss the RTOC day but it probably won't be run in & tried & tested enough even if we tripped over a head today.

A loan head is always dodgy as if the same thing happens again (for whatever reason) someone's head is knackered & it runs out to be mega expensive then, plus it's alot of work replacing valve stem seals etc, only to be taken off again at some point.

We will just have to be patient, been a long time coming but will be worth the wait!!! 8-)

I'm so proud of you guys :D

Catch up with y'all soon!

Fair play , but you shouldnt need the hylomar, the head gasket is compression fit and torqing down once should make a perfect seal. Excess Hylomar in my eyes is something extra to be picked up by the water/oilpump and create unwanted contamination.

looks good otherwise , will be interested to see what the end result is. Certainly potential for up to 250hp with the correct equiptment

No hylomar has been used on the metal headgasket, due to the reasons you have made.

As to the power.................only time & fettling will tell!!!

such a shame , hope you get it sorted sally.

best of luck
