Bammy Central Locking!!!

Featured Replies

Need a little help

I have a VW Polo S reg (1998) 3 Door Hatch Back .

The central locking works on the drivers door, petrol cap and the boot.

But not on the passenger side door.

I can lock/unlock the drivers side and the boot with my key.

I can unlock the passengers side door with the key but not lock it.

So does anyone know what i need 2 fix it?

Is it a pump inside the door or the lock itself perhaps?

Any help would be great!

Thanx.

theres only one pump for the central locking, its situated in the boot behind the drivers side rear lamp, but this doesnt look like the problem

its just a fault in the mechanism inside the door, sounds like a very easy fix

pull off the interior door handle cover and undo the two screws inside, this will enable you to yank the doorcard off, slit open the foam lining on the door an have a look

you should be able to work out whats wrong/broken/unhooked, maybe by comparing it with the drivers side?

Any tips on the removing the door card at all mate?

Any tools i need?

It sounds more like the same as what's wrong with mine, the mechanism on the back of the handle isn't working properly (I made a new thread yesterday about it).

Basically theres a paddle thing on the back which turns as you turn the key, however mine is only turning one way so I can't lock the car. I think a new handle is needed but I don't know how to match it to your key......

Oh and the handle comes off really easy if you want to check, don't need to remove the door card or anything, just the one screw holding it on.

Yip sounds like the paddle on the back of the handle is shagged. Same thing happened on my mk3 golf which uses the same handles/lock to polos.

Just go to the scrappy and get another handle, you dont need the whole handle, just the silver paddle bit and the spring etc which flips the lock. If you can get this off in the scappy without loosing the spring etc then just pocket it and pay nothing, if not pay for the handle and swap it over at home for the broken paddle on your car. No need to change any key that way. Its pretty obvious what needs to be changed, its the spring that goes with the paddle that corodes and makes it play up.

I sit possible for anyone to get a hold of a paddle and spring from the lock for me??

I have been round 6 scrapies and not 1 had what i need.

If any 1 could get a hold of em and post them 2 me i could paypal some doh

only other option is off ebay and would rather not pay £19

You may find that is cheapest to buy straight from VW. The components parts for a castle spacer and paddle costs only £5 from VW parts.

Ok as promised....

Note:

1 (left) : broken ring at base of paddle.

2 (right): broken 'spoke' on castle ring.
