Ched's Miami Blue 1977 Mk 1

Featured Replies

Model: 1977 Mk1 Polo L

Engine: 895 cc

Suspension: Phil J 60/40 Kit with Lowering caps

Brakes: Standard

Wheels and Tyres: 7" by 13" ATS Classics

Exterior Styling: Standard issue

Interior Styling: Wood rimmed Steering wheel

ICE and Security: Nope

I bought this car off Phil J after seeing it for sale on this forum. The car had no MOT and Phil warned me it was rusty and had no interior, but I had rebuilt a number of mini's before so knew anything can be saved with bit of effort!!

She was way to far for me to go see, so I payed for it over the phone and sent out a car recovery firm to go get her 8) Which is much cheaper than you think by the way!

The car needed two new inner and outer sills, two jacking points, two rear arches, Inner arche repairs, rear valance, a patch on the boot floor and a patch on the drivers foor pan....Which took some time

I wanted to aim for a ratty looking polo as i wanted to be able to use and enjoy it without the hassle of polishing all the time. Iv rebuilt and cleaned everything that iv worked on (Such as the brakes and anti roll bar, petrol tank e.t.c) but left the front wings and valance scabby.

SO after I painted the new pannels (leaving the aged paint look on the rest of the car) and sourcing an interior, Iv been busy getting in back toghter over the last week.........Its almost done :-D

Thanks for the comments :-)

Tried to fit a stainless exhaust off a mini today - But could'nt get it to fit n had to settle for the bongo one :-(

But I did manage to drive it home from the unit its been in, I love driving mk 1 ' s!

I could do with some help tho..........

I cannot work out how/where the rear shelf is supposed to hidge from, I didnt take the interior out the car so dont have a clue and there doesnt seem to be any holes to mount anything!. Could someone send us a picture from inside their boot so I can see what I'm missing??

Also I'm missing one rear seat belt reel, I really need it for the MOT and looked in all the scrappies n there is none.

Its made by securicon and I'm willing to pay for it if anyone has one spare?

are you sure you need rear seatbelts due to the cars age?!

mine went straight through the mot without any rear seats - a 5 minute job.

I could take the one I have out but it would leave two big holes in the material that covers the c posts and the trim pannels have holes in them for the belt too so would look bit gash :-(

Iv still got a few little jobs for the MOT so hoping to find one before, But if not i will remove it just for MOT

Love those arches

looks great, and well done on the work. you’ve made a minter there

On the rear shelf the hinges are attached to the back of the rear seat. This is the only pic i can find which shows them. look to the left and you’ll see the hinge

I got the pannels from my local pannel shop, made by Hadrian. Here is there web site www.perfectpanels.co.uk

The polo is now MOT'd and taxed!

So much fun to drive!

Iv managed to burn most of the paint off the rear arches already  , The tyres are hitting the top of the inner arch when iv got a passenger - I will be fitting some bigger bump stops as soon as I can stop myself driving it everywhere!
