i have a mk4 1.4 16v polo, i bought a set off alloys which were meant to be VW fitment but bore of the wheel seems like it is a fraction of a mm too small, can i just grind a fraction off the center of the wheel?

They must be the wrong offset

are you sure? i thought offset was to do with how far off the center of the wheel width ways the hub joins the wheel?

what i mean is the bit in the very center of the wheel,the big hole between the bolts, it just seems slightly too small to fit over the one on my hub

Is the centre of the wheel called the (Spigot) ???

it could be, i know you get spigot rings but i thought it was the ring that was called a spigot lol but it is this part of the wheel that is causing me the problem

What are you rabbiting on about? The wheel doesn't go onto the hub?

Its the Centre bore? VW fitment is 57.1 IIRC, And you have to get it machined.

Yes but it also has to sit somewhere.. Do you not a have a picture?

nope sorry, well the bit i am talking about is the bit that locates the wheel so you can bolt it on

well, if the centre bore is too small your pretty fucked. The only option would be to take them to a machine shop who have a lathe big enough to machine the bore to the correct size, providing there is enough metal there to still be strong with a bigger bore. Are you sure they are too small or just a pretty tight fit?

i will give it another go tomorow as i couldnt push too hard as was just on a jack, thanks for your help

Sounds like they could be Vauxhall wheels. Make sure the offset isn't anything crazy high or they may rub on the strut and/or look a bit wanky cause they'll be tucked right into the arches.

totally agree there, I've just bought some bbs rx rims, turns out there vauxhall fitment so i sanded 0.5mm out the centres of the rims, they fit perfect. I've gotta buy some 5mm spacers to fill the arches out next. still for what they cost there a bargin

i would have said just sand a bit of the centre bore away too. whats all this hoohar about offsets at top of the thread

It has to be sanded perfectly evenly,or the wheel will sit off-centre.

A flap wheel on a drill should be safe enough,as long as you hold the drill only dead centre. Only open it as far as it needs to fit on,aswell.

Most pro lathes will take a 14in wheel - the one i used to cut my rims recently would've taken a 15.

if the alloys have bee painted they could be a bit of a tight fit.
