I've never painted fabric.

Or wall-papered my windscreen.

Or made tyres out of fibreglass.

MikeyMK

I would try dying them first maybe?? Try RIT dye. Can buy it from the internet. Don't know how you would go about applying it but i thought it was worth a suggestion.

you cant paint the fabric it will go hard and bobbly. as mentioned you get get spray dye that would work. you can also get special vinyl paint for the lower parts should you want to recolour them

Tear the fabric off,rub them down and then paint them.

am i right in saying, all mk2 door cards are the same?

yeah i think so, rear ones may vary slightly though between square, coupe and saloon. you used to be able to get some models that were fitted with black vinyl cards that didnt have any fabric on. also you can make mk3 ones fit, though they will need a small amount of modding on the front near to the dash

cool, how much would i expect to pay for a set of door cards?

cheers

i wouldnt pay more than 20 quid

It is possible to take the fabric off and paint them I think, it's just chipboard type stuff underneath!

jut got back form a scrappy, only finding 2 mk2 polo and they were squarebacks. and about 3 mk3 squarebacks. and loads of mk4's. so no help. i think I'm going to take them off soon, and jut spray the material, and if it doesnt work out, then i'll rip the material off.

This VHT stuff certainly works a treat on bumpers and front grilles - I was thinking of getting some seat fabric to see how it works on that so I'd be interested to see how you get on with the door cards.

going to pop to a local car shop tomorrow morning ithink. to see if i can get some of that VHT stuff, and also a can of black spray paint. do the dye first and see if that comes out ok. then depending on that, i will try the spray can.

went to a couple of places and i couldnt find any. so i might just try a rattle can on one of them. and see what that comes out like. but i forgot to get it. so that'll have to wait.
