anyone led'd the clocks and /or switches in their mk2 polo?

just wondering if theres room in the switch to do this?

what did you use and how'd it come out...do the clocks light evenly or patchy?

I intend to do this.

My problem is with powering them - I've been told that every led needs a transistor,and given the quantity required,this could prove expensive. For the instruments,i intend to replace the signal leds in the centre with new bright ones,covering them with a tinted lens. The MK2 instruments are just plain ugly,and that is the worst bit. The flood lights are diffused,but i'll replace the green floodlight diffusion strip with a red one. As for the switches,there's room inside the see-saw switch cap (which you can pull off,with difficulty,leaving the main switch unit still in situ) for both a small led in the lamp spot,and transistor in the hollow body of mentioned see-saw button.

best way of doing this is to just replace the green colour filters with a different colour one. you can get acetate film in all kinds of colours and is far cheaper than leds. from my experience of using leds they dont give a very even dispersal of light, although you can now get frosted ones which would improve things, but they will still have a narrow light angle compared with conventional lamps. you can get direct replacement leds if you really want to, meaning you dont have to mess around with resistors. for the switchgear you would have to use normal leds and resistors, but i found it was easier to just paint the lamps in my chosen colour. you can also buy colour filters that fit over the lamp

mikey ...resistors aint costly , have a ganders on ebay you can buy loads of 3mm leds and resistors for a couple quid..or maplin do superbright ones for 39p each

colours caps and stuff are no use...my switches are either dim or non working ...I've already done my mk2 golf switches and they came out awesome, but the polo ones are much smaller thats why i asked about em...not sure theres room for a led

is the mk2 cig lighter spose to light up?

i think so. I'm pretty sure my old coupe s one did. you can replace those ones with audi ones that light up red. think they were fitted to the audi 80.

yeah just checked the cig should light up...so thata another job

also gona fit a led for red and blue hot/cold spot on the heater slide...it'l look like starship enterprise when I'm done
