Ouch! Looks like a mammoth task haha. About time someone did a proper resto on this forum!

Whilst a lot of the panels are available new, to buy them would cost an absolute fortune, and whilst restorations are known to be relatively expensive, to replace the entire floor section, jacking points, etc would sap alot of the budget that Rach has available.

For the vast part we are looking at fabricating a lot of the new sections of floor. We do have a pair of genuine rear quarter panels (for a coupe, though the front half of the panel, and much of the arch is shared with the saloon), which will sacrifice their arches, some pattern sill panels, some decent second hand panels, and some 'off cuts' from a scrapped Mark3 that will provide us with inner sills.

I was going to buy that quarter panel as well!!!! :)

this has got to be one of the most rust polos I've ever seen, you must really love it to be going to all this hassle to fix it all, and for that i wish you the very best of luck!

Yeah you don't see them this bad ever. I just thought would be great if i could bring her back from this so we will give it our best shot :-)

You weren't the only other person after that panel :ninja:

Thanks, going to need all the luck i can get!

Yeah i do love her, she's my first car and been through alot with her. Not worth much but sentimentally she's worth alot to me.

Well, I finally got round to looking at stuff.

The rear window isn't tinted at all (not that I can see any way)

The floor. I had a poke around and in my opinion Its not worth it. Its starting to go and its dented to hell from some numpty not knowing how to jack a car up.

And I've just remembered.. the wing.

Will update on that tomorrow :)

Thanks for having a look for me, we might have to fabricate the floor pans in that case. Yeah just let me know about the wing, cheers! :-)

Good grief! That's definitely aged quite badly! You're going ahead and fully restoring it though right? Is there anything off that mk3 saloon you scrapped you can salvage?

Wow thats a good project! almost as good as the yellow polo at your unit

Yeah we are fully restoring her, daunting but needs doing and needs doing properly. That mk3 saloon was stolen by pikeys otherwise we would of used some really useful bits

That yellow mk1 was nowhere near as bad as this! At least that had a floor complete and in tact, something i would love to have

Hats off to you guys. Thats a serious labour of love. Best of luck with everything, cant wait to see it back rollin onthem silverstones ;)

It most definatly is a labour of love. I can't wait either til she's back on the Silverstones too, will be a long time though :-(

Best of luck rach :-)

Shit Rach i really diddnt expect it to be that bad at all fully feel for the effort your going through to get it fixed your a nutter !

Mine is off the road now for a quite a while .. tomorrow I'm going out to pull the carpets up i hope it doesnt look to bad ..

Mine's spanish built, and the carpet was trapping water for two years from a leaky door but it never rusted the floor. Those pictures genuinely hurt. Hope you can get it back together. :?

Blimey, and i thought my Tornado red S was rotten.. I decided to re-shell,and it still feels like the same car in all but colour.

Whilst everyone else is giving you noble support,i just cant - seriously, its just a tin box,and you want as safe a one as the MK2 gets,by having one constructed as intended.

Yeah i know i'm a nutter. Yours won't be that bad as it's german (i think), but i very much doubt yours will be as bad.

I think Goldie has been trapping water in her carpets for the last 20 years tbh and she wasn't exactly great when i got her 6 years ago, would of been better doing this back then but didn't have the unit, money and skills.

I respect your point of view and there are people who agree with you. But if i wasn't confident that she will be safe enough to put back on the road i would of just re-shelled her. I know we aren't professional welders but i know how it should be done and it will be done properly i will make sure of it.

Looking a bit more rational now then - hope the resto goes well

might get £20 for the shell if you weigh it in tbh :paranoid:
