Tailgate Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hey,

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum...so sorry if its in the wrong section. I was just driving about today, trying to get use to a manual, having driven an auto for a year since I passed and I noticed that my tailgate warning light was on so I pulled over to one side and checked my boot but it was def closed. I opened it and closed it again but the warning light did not disappear?!?!

Can anyone help or advise me? I've heard its quite a common problem with polos? I've tried searching for threads which may have been posted on here already relating to my problem but couldn't find anything.

Kind Regards

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Have you tried using your rear wash/wipe recently? Sometimes the pipe falls off completely or halfway and water soaks the sensor making the boot open light come on in the centre console.

Remedy...

1. open boot.

2. undo torx bolts holding plastic trim onto tailgate on the 6n2 there are two torx bolts in the handle grips.

3. gently prise the trim off.

4. inspect the rear wash/wipe mechanism. If fallen off: reattach.

5. inspect the boot sensor ?corroded may need replacement.

6. leave for 24hrs to dry out and reassemble.

These simple steps may (cheaply) fix the problem for you - it's very common across car lines in VW.

Take care,

PoloD.

Hi PoloD,

Yea I used my rear wiper today as it was pouring down with rain this morning! Thanks for your help! I got really worried bout it LOL

Thanks Again,

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Not quite what I was hinting at... if you pull forward on the stalk you get windscreen wash on the font windscreen and wiping. But, if you push away from you you get the same on the rear - that is to say a spray of water from the rear wash jet and corresponding wiping.

It's the little pipe that feeds the REAR windscreen washjet that soaks the rear tailgate open sensor and perhaps the cause of your problem. Not the wiper that does the wiping.

Sorry if I was not clear the first time around. Can't do photos for you this time round, but I remember posting them up a while ago...

Regards,

PoloD.
