A few raw figures of main components that you would need to run any boost at all though your particular engine. Bear in mind this just litrally scratches the surface

• Low comp forged pistons £500-650
• Forged rods £500+
• EMS such as Emerald £580
• Intercooler and pipework o some description £300-700
• Uprated brakes!!
• Uprated suspention items
  • Alloy inlet manifold runners £150-200 and a alloy plenum.
  • High flow rate injectors £145
  • Throttle body with boost return valve

it would help if you could get some pics up of anything mate, i'd be interested to see how you got the air into the inlet manifold, and all the intercooler pipework etc. I'm having to get an Audi S2 inlet manifold and weld that to the bottom part of mine to get the throttle body on the right side for the pipe work to not be a biatch.

Compression would be the first thing to sort out mate, i've bought 2 G60 Head gaskets to lower mine as i cant afford the ££££s for pistons and rods. The G60 gaskets are metal and shouldnt wear out.

by the time i've done my properly it'll be in the £1300 region, and that's just the engine work, i want a whole new exhaust and some other bits to.

tony, whats with the attitude? you come on slating jabba, asking a question and when most people tell you what anyone knows if they search for charging the 1.4 8v you get all defensive.

really the sensible way would be to have researched it first, you would know the rods are chocolate and you cant just bolt a charger on. i empathise with jabba on this one cause it would be more trouble to make it work than its worth.

As above, the Ibiza Gti shares the same engine as the Golf, a G60 engine should bolt in, surely that with an Eaton would be easier.

Also insuring a supercharged G60 engine conversion will probably be cheaper than declaring a small block with custom everything and a supercharger.

Or a G60 conversion running a G60 charger...even stock the 160bhp is prob. going to be better than a highly modified 1.4 would muster. If it fits easily I'd def. go for the the G60...or just buy a Cupra?

No offence to any one with a cupra but they are like saxo's round my area!!! sorry

you can pick up complete engines for 5-600(without the charger), so they arent massively expensive, not compared with that custom list of bits you will need for the 1.4 and its not like many people have put the 1.8 g60 into the ibiza, which seems odd to me. i would guess you would see close to 200 bhp from a stock g60 block running an eaton. the money you save on parts would more than cover any difference in insurance costs.

yeah it has been done before in the UK. AWTracksport have built one which was at a couple of shows earlier this year which was an M45 on a 1.4 8v with standard internals running low boost pressure. Jez's 16v beat it on the strip at Santa Pod.

Was baffled that anyone would charge a 1.4 8v but thought what the hell and kept reading. Agree with the position of Jabbra and others that its a bit of a risk they werent willing to take. Then read the above and was highly entertained. If you want speed you go for a decent engine, you accept that you can only get so much out of a small engine. To coin a phrase "you cant polish a turd"

Yes insurance is a bitch and I'm running a valver for a year until I max out my no claimes and pass the magic 25 then I'm after a 20v T.

Projects are good, but you seem to be spending alot of time, money and as we can all see, stress and not getting much at all back in speed or resale value.

Yes id like to see that seat ibiza supercharged but no ones posted a pic yet lads pic?? ye its a risk I'm not taking as i haven't drive the car its just runs at the moment :-) yep couldtn agrre with you more I'm not pressing for big bhp but I'm pressing for 150bhp and i will be happy hopefully running a 4 speed box so its quicker to 110mph ye i couldnt agree more with you fella its a project alot of time and effort has gone in to it all ready well over 500 man hours and lots more to come.

it's a white mk4 polo not an ibiza but it's the same engine. I don't have a picture to hand.

yes cause i asked for a bit of adivce and they bit my fuking head off!!!!! I'm sorry but if thats the way they treat thier customers then they aint a very good firm to deal with i phone g-werks and i couldnt fault them adivce and they helped me alot. they didnt argue with me at all they just asked me alot of questions and a bit of friendly adivce. naw I'm ordeing stuff from them this weekend becuase of thier customer serivces was excllent basicaly jabba just lost bout 2k from being cocks on the phone cause thats what the stuff I'm going to order is going to come to like beavies said!

So if yours is 150bhp they'll charge you same as a 2l16v (which is about £500 for engine) or g60 (£1000 for engine) both should bolt straight in and with mods will see you up to 180bhp (2l16v) or 250bhp+ (g60)

so insurance shouldn't be the issue. The question is do yu want to be different - then go for it with your route.

If you just want more power then i'd fit a different lump - even if its more on the insurance, it'll probably have better parts availability and be more reliable in the long term

Surely if you are looking to spend around £2000 on this project you would be far better off buying a G60 engine and converting your ibiza to that and even having some change to help with the insurance premiums, oh and not to mension a fairly reliable engine.
