You can buy a whole G60 Coraddo for near enough 2 grand...maybe even less...so an engine isn't going to be anywhere near that.

I think your insurance will want to bum you either way....adding a charger or doing an engine swap.

You'll start with 160bhp and have the ability to work from there...rather than reaching a peak of say 160 un-reliable bhp...you'll get up to 180-200 without too much hassle.

i didnt realise g60 lumps would bolt straight in, with that in mind, its a no brainer, they are ten-a-penny.

it wouldnt cost more to put a standard g60 lump in than an all custom 1.4 charged engine at the same power.

have a fresh read of this thread from the beginning and you will see most people are trying to offer sound advice and most of the guys on here agree with one-another.

in my experience Jabba arent a bad company to deal with, but you must see thier side of it that they must have literally hundreds of people phoning them up daily asking to supercharge their cars and i expect it is much easier to just say no cause realistically to see any desent gains from your engine you will end up with only really the block, crank and ancillaries the rest would need to be modified or custom parts.

I don't know of any G60d Beezas? Would be a good project.

No reason why not, as they have various Golf engines don't they?

yeh mk2 ibizas came with an ADL lump (bascially a KR with better injection) and the ABF (very good engine)

i think there's 1 or 2 G60'd beezas

nowt wrong with supercharging the 1.4 8V although i dont know off the top of my head the compression ratio but for running low boost as in 5/6psi max you wont need to change internals. the whole buy a G40 bottom end malarky is complete crap

I think that your manor is what has let you down in this occasion, and the compramise is really the increased insurance for relatively low power gains. for this much effort you'd want to be running at least double that at 12psi - 1bar boost.

Decent intercooler efficiency is very important and will help you run higher compression ratio. Also the mapping is key and hence why people wont touch it. you could do it all yourself using megasquirt and would learn a shit load in the process, and lets be honest, how much is an 8V bottom end when it melts a piston?

I'd fit a metal plate/two head gaskets for cowboy style compression ratio reduction, wants to be about 8-9:1 although the GT block at 10:1 would still be possible

To put it into perspective, I had a turbo technics XR2 that ran 7psi on standard internals through a using a carb. was a barrel of laughs and as it was so light was about 150/160bhp per tonne.

It's not like mega squirt and building a supercharged car is something that is particularly easy to do though. It would take so much effort to get to grips with mega squirt for a start, especially if you aren't mechanically minded. On the one hand you have a bumpy road filled with pit falls, expenses and massive drains on time and resources...in the other hand the ability to esentially bolt in a different engine and with considerably less time and effort get better results than you could hope for with the 1.4...it should be obvious by now which option is better.

Unlike a lot of car makers VW have a good selection of forced induction engines past and present...makes adding forced induction a little less tricky.

yep Tav you are correct although I'm not too clued on how easy the other engines are to fit into an ibiza.

just to everyone generally there is no need to say it cant be done

Paul thanks for that info was a good help so could i run it @ 5/6 psi with the standad inlet bearing in mind in a SPI .. and it plastic..... its running of the standad ecu at the moment but i haven't drive it what do you think to me drivng it??

Could you tell me a little more about mega squirt?? I'm mechancly minded but i also have several compauter qualifations so id like to give it a go

it's a standalone ECU, can be bought unassembled for about £120, or assemebled for £250, you can have add-ons like launch control etc (if you were into that kinda thing) and you can live map it. Thats what is bieng done to mine, i'm having it fitted with a base map. And then once finished Eddy will map it while i drive. Should be some siiick shit

I think Yoof is using it on his GT. Had some difficulties with it and got help from a company to set the car up. Just going on what I read but it's a very steap learning curve...made me a little more apprehensive about jumping in with it in future.

basically it works like most car electronic systems. It uses a trigger wheel on your crank or cam with a sensor positioned about 1mm away from it which pulses a signal every time the engine does one revolution. coupled to coil packs and a few other bits to produce your spark

you can buy the kits with either a map sensor or a throttle position sensor. The map sensor option is the more desireable option for forced induction cars (turbo/supercharged). As mentioned you can get it in a kit form of loads of resistors, capacitors etc or you can buy them ready assesmbled and tested, but the price is higher.

Then all you got to do is map it. You might have to hunt around for a base map, or use one from a G40/G60 or something similar and then adjust it to suit your car to prevent it from detonating. Obviously this is not as easy as it sounds and I suggest you do alot of research and reading. Its a steep lurning curve as mentioned but you will know more than most on here once you have mastered it.

The possabilities of the kit are quite extensive. you could save several maps on the ecu for say 0-60 sprint, limp home, circuit race etc....and as mentioned it will allow fitment of launch control, aquamist and other systems too.

I think you would be foolish to drive it without it mapped, although if you needed to drive it, do so with the boost hose disconnected and just let the charger whine away but this would be rather pointless.

The plastic inlet manifold isnt the best thing to be putting under pressure but many turbo diesels have plastic inlets and they run boost as do some people with the zetec turbo conversions on the ford scene. But id get an ally one welded up soon as. not really that costly just recycle some 20vt bits and get the inlet welded to suit. find someone in the welding trade and buy them a few drinks.

...or you could use the VW system that comes with a G60 and have it remapped to suit any mods...obviosuly with the G60 engine.

So what price have your insurance company qouted you to cover your car when and if you ever fit a supercharger on it?

Surely if you are looking to spend around £2000 on this project you would be far better off buying a G60 engine and converting your ibiza to that and even having some change to help with the insurance premiums, oh and not to mension a fairly reliable engine. :?

buy a G60 mk2 golf and be done with it

I could fart more boost than 6 PSI.

I think what you might need to take in from what everyone is saying, is that yes whilst it is possible tp do it, it is utterly pointless for the gains you will make. You might as well put a much better engine in, like a G60, and then tune that if need be. A plastic inlet manifold and single point injection, on a supercharged car? How daft does that sound!

Respect to you for wanting to take this route, i can see why, btu don't be stubborn when people advise you that there is no point. There are much more cost effective ways of resolving this, if you have £2k to spare or whatever, you could buy a much nicer car than a beeza, or a really nice engine to drop in.

Dont do it to the 8v!

Attempted to mount my intercooler in the bumper today didnt work :disgust: its 27" long and 4" wide?? I've got it just sitting in the engine bay at the moment

seing as fuel injection is gonna cost mega bucks why not ditch it in favour of a carb? mg metrot turbo for example ran a carb with about 6 psi boost, yes you would have to make a new manifold and sort the fuel pressure, but it would save a lot of cash. i still think g60 power is the way forward, but if you dead set on charging the 1.4 a carb would make life a bit easier though it might be at the expense of a bit of power and fuel economy.
