helper springs

Featured Replies

if i removed them would it reduce body roll as the helper spring wasnt trying to push the car up? also would it make any dif to how stiff the suspension is as when the car is offthe jacks they are fully compressed anyways

thanks

i assume you have coilovers.

i think the helper springs are to take up the slack for when the suspension is at full travel ie. when you are going over bumps. i dont think there would be a problem taking them out as long as the main springs are under some amout of pre-load when the shock is fully extended. if they arent there is a danger of the springs coming off thier seats - Not good

i would leave them on - referring back to your initial question. they technically will be adding to the body roll, but they are so weak you probably wouldnt notice the difference without them.

normally a helper spring is only 4lb/inch so i doubt they physically add to the body roll. the whole point is that when the car is off the jack they are fully compressed

as for running the spring without pretension, on a 2 1/4 strut even when they came free at one point they wont go very far, just be a bit noisy when they line back up again.
