I think Haynes is lying to me, anyone else know the correct tyre pressures for 145/80 r13?

Tyre pressure is per car not the tyre, so what does it say in yer car manual or behind the petrol cap?

Owners manual says :

33 and 40 kw

1.7 front and 1.7 rear (at half payload)

1.9 front and 2.2 rear (at full payload)

my tyre pressure gauge only reads in psi so any ideas what what 1.7 bar is is psi?

Should be roughly 25 psi

I play about with mine quite a bit, currently at 26 front 23 rear.

yeah it's just that at around the 25 mark the tyres look a little soft.. suppose they are only 145's thou

Pressures are the same for 155/70s as well. I think it's more to do with the fact a mk3 weighs nothing.

Think i over inflated the fronts and under inflated the rears yesterday, petrol cap says 2.1 bar, around 30PSI and i put 42 in the fronts 25 in the rears haha i fudged it anyway, id just been for a long-ish drive so they were nice and warm...

Quick question, at what kind of pressure does it start to affect fuel economy? >20psi?

Not implying anything but........ never trust the guage at an air-line in the garage, they're always out.

Spend a £5 and get a Digi-guage from Halfords or car store and carry it in the glove box.... over inflate by a few PSI and then using finger nail / something bring pressure back down to required level.
