hi people question as above.

i am looking at a set of alloys on ebay, however, the previous owner has had them mirror polished/ chromed (aftermarket).

whats involved in having them put back to the standard silver colour? is it just a process of spraying them silver, or would they need stripping etc?

also, what kind of money am i looking at? they are 18 inch alloys (not for my polo).

If they are polished you will need to key them up with something like a 800 grit then use etch primer (I think its called etch primer, its for bare metal) couple of coats of that, then whatever colour you want, then some lacquer.

or if you take them to a refurbers they will more than likely bead or shot blast them. this will key the surface for the paint to stick.

ok thanks people for your advice. no need to be nasty to skodaboy just cos he has a skoda.

Having them blasted and then powder coated would be a good idea. Powdercoat is really strong/durable. You can get it in any number of colours and looks great. A local place here charge about £40-50 a wheel...not sure if that is the going rate or not else where.

Ofcourse...you can always paint them your self. A lot of people get reet good results DIY.
