As above need some 165/45/15 tyres ideally bridgestone potenza's, as they will be ideal size for my rims, if i can't find any i'm going to have to go with some 185/45/15's so please help.

After looking at Daves 165/45s they don't look that much narrower than 165/50s tbh. 165/50s are cheap as piss to.

yeah 165/50 potenzas look similar, I would go for them personally and I think I am going to If I get hold of some zender turbos which is looking highly likely!

problem is they will be going onto a 6J rim so there will only be a tiny bit of a strech, and with 50 profiles i get constant rubbing which is why i'm looking for 45's

The wheel is not wide enough. So the tyre does not strech at all and will sit tall on the wheel.

Going from a 50 to a 45 is only going to give you an extra 5mm clearance.

Better of spending your money on having the arches rolled.

well between the wheels i have on there now and the new ones with 50 profiles on, there is only a tiny bit of difference. my old wheels are 185/55/14 btw new ones 195/50/15. if i can get the new ones to be almost the same diameter i'll be happy, since i don't really want to raise my car up. And i think the tyre touches at the top of the arch plastic not on the sides

Right, this is how you work out the tyre size

Tyre sizes are made up of a number of different numbers and letters. For example tyre size 185/60 R 14 82 H is made up of the following information:

185 The tyre section width in millimetres

60 The aspect ratio in % (the height of the sidewall divided by the tyre's width)

R Denotes the tyre's construction type - in this case it's a radial

14 Rim diameter in inches

82 Load Index

H Speed Rating

So a 195/50 is going to be alot wider and taller than a 165/50.

oh so 165/50's will actually be a lower profile than 195/50 is that what you are trying to say? so the profile will be 50% X 165 = 82.5mm if I'm not mistaken?

Yes, because the side wall profile is worked using the width of the tyre..

If you currently running 195/50's then 165/50's or 165/45's are going to give you a fair bit more clearance and should sort most of the rubbing issues.

As far as stretch goes on a 6J its not really gunna happen, the potenza's on my sebrings give a little bit but its not massive.

Hope that helps to clear up confusion. Here's a picture to help show the average difference between a 195/50/15 tyre & a 165/50/15 tyre.

Please bear in mind that tyre sizes vary quite dramatically i.e. 195/50's aren't necessary going to be the exact same size.

Stretching it will make the sidewall slightly smaller as well due to the way it would be mounted. Only by a matter of mm though
