had my 16v a couple of months an the thermostat went so it overheated wen to vw got a new one an housing the lot.

an i think the new one is allways open now i can drive miles without stopping an the temp will never go over 70, wen I'm still, sitting in traffic it bilds up to 90 then when i set off again it drop dack down to about 70 with in a couple of mins.

this is even with the heating on cold or off.

could it be anything else or is it a dogy thermostat?

Put the heater on. If the temp the heater is putting out is constant then it's the temp sensor. if it's the temp sensor then mpg will also be down.

Same thing happened to me

I was gonna try another thermostat, but noticed it went back to normal after a while.

Gets upto temp after a few mins now and stays there, even on long clear roads.

I'd give it time, the main thing is that it isn't overheating :-)

mine is doing the same thing it stays low and takes ages to get to 90.C then it goes back dwn to 70.

I've had temp sender changed and I've been told thermostat myself.

I've had the car just few months but the people who had it before me changed tep sensor and throttle body and loads of other bits trying to get rid off the reving problem (cleanning the throttle body) so shouldnt imagine it should be nothing major as alomost everything has been replaced already hahahaha.

If its between 70-90 IIRC thats the operating temperature of your engine so I'm sure you can give it the full beans.

if it drops below 70 then something is wrong. My car has started doing the recently, dropping down to 70 soon as i start driving.
